Hello, I have been trying to run Rosetta. My computer is running the tasks, but Rosetta reports 0 cobblestones of computation. I've tried to get help through BOINC & virtualbox message boards but no one is helping. Here is my post. Please help ! https://boinc.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=14815 |

Hello, Several copies of your post. Have you noticed that when you post something here, it does not always appear immediately? This should be a place where you report problems specific to Rosetta@home, but it's been months since any moderator replied to anything, I think that only certain other projects use cobblestones to measure your work, Rosetta@home calls it credit instead, |

Thanks for response. I hope i figured out how to delete multiple postings. It was an accident. To the best of your knowledge Is there any way to get help with BOINC / Virtualbox running ANY project? I am not getting credits with Rosetta or any othe project. |

To the best of your knowledge Is there any way to get help with BOINC/Virtualbox running ANY project? I am not getting credits with Rosetta or any other project The link you posted was to a post from 18-Oct and showed you'd had tasks for 2 days and had only completed 6hrs of processing. Looking at your current tasks you've had them for a day and not completed any of them. With the PC you have, they shouldn't be taking much longer than 8hrs to run for each core, which implies you have dodgy settings. In Advanced View in the Boinc manager, under Options select Computing Preferences to get a dialog box where the first tab is named Computing In the Usage Settings section of the Computing tab, both should be set to 100% Under When to Suspend of the Computing tab, all should be blank or empty Under the Network tab and Daily Schedules tab, all settings should be unticked Everything else can carry on with default settings, pretty much. You can close that dialog box now Under the Task menu in the Boinc Manager, click on any task that's running and select Properties on the left In the Box that comes up, you should see a couple of fields like this CPU time 05:33:04 Elapsed time 05:49:27 If there's not much difference between CPU time & Elapsed time, the task should complete after 8 hours of CPU time. If there's a big difference between CPU time & Elapsed time, that's where your problem has been and it's likely to do with the Computing settings mentioned above not being helpful. With 8 hours being the target cpu runtime, your tasks should be only a few hours from completing, reporting and credits awarded. If that's the case, you're basically sorted out. If not, come back and ask again. Note as well, current tasks aren't using Virtual Box at all at the moment, so don't worry about that at all. We can get to that when Python tasks start coming down - a whole other ball-game |

Thanks so much. I have made all of those changes and will see over the next week whether the problem has been sorted out. |

Hello again, Some advice deeply appreciated ! After making all of the changes recommended, as of today i have no more tasks in the queue. In addition, Rosetta still reports no units completed (no work done). Should I uninstall Virtualbox since it is not being used? could it be interfering? Maybe uninstall everything and reinstall? Thank you ! |

Hello again, There is no work available so it's not an issue on your end. |

Hello again, And also, it doesn't interfere unless Python tasks are being run, No need to uninstall |

Did you notice that one of your servers is not running? So there are tasks sent, but the download does not finish. Best wishes for your Great project and the results for mankind. |

The deadline is past, but all of my completed work tasks have not been uploaded due to "transient HTTP error". Could anybody help? |

Hello all! I'm currently working on a macro economics assignment (due in about a week) where I have to invest in social capital. I decided on distributed computing as I thought it would be a great way to contribute to the economy given my position. That being said, part of the assignment is to ask questions and "interview" someone within the scene. Bellow are a couple questions I created, my assignment doesn't require multiple questions, so anyone who wants to answer feel free to pick whichever inspires you the most. 1. In what unprecedented ways might the extensive application of distributed computing frameworks, such as Rosetta@home and comparable projects, catalyze a revolution in the pharmaceutical and broader healthcare sectors, facilitating long-term benefits and elevated efficacy in the field? 2. What diverse economic incentives could act as a driving force to stimulate greater engagement and active participation of individuals and organizations in distributed computing initiatives, such as Rosetta@home, in order to amplify the scope and scale of outcomes and impact? 3. Regarding the distribution of benefits across diverse income groups and regions, to what degree might participation in Rosetta@home and related endeavors either promote or exacerbate economic inequality, and what potential implications might this hold for overall societal and economic development? 4. To what extent could the sustained progression and continual innovation stemming from the efforts of Rosetta@home and analogous distributed computing projects aid scientific progress, bolster economic growth and development in the long-term, and even instigate a revolutionary shift in various sectors and fields? 5. Could the establishment and advancement of distributed computing infrastructure for projects such as Rosetta@home unlock novel economic prospects within the technology sector, and what specific skills and resources would be necessary to capitalize on these prospects and drive innovation forward? I realize that this is a forum for moderator support. Originally as I was writing this post I was hoping to get someone who is managing this project to answer one of my questions. I realized now that may be unrealistic given my time frame. So I would love if anyone who has it in them to answer one of these questions would do so. Finally, in order not to bloat this forum, I would suggest messaging me your responses. |
