Today at midday {PST} I see 9 outstanding WUs in my 'Results for User'. BOINC Manager shows 1 WU running and 4 waiting. Someone needs to have a look at my account. Last Reset {yesterday} there were NO WUs outstanding in BOINC Manager. Getting bored with Ghost WUs. |

Today at midday {PST} I see 9 outstanding WUs in my 'Results for User'. Go to your preferences page, and click on the "View Computers" link. Check to make certain that there is not an extra computer that mirrors one of your other computers. If there is, merge the two identical computers. Sometimes detaching, or reseting the project can create a new phantom computer and the system will start sending work units to it. Then those workunits will appear in your stats, but not on your system. The fix is to merge the phantom computer with the real one. The phantom workunits will still be in your list but they will have no real effect on your processing. Moderator9 ROSETTA@home FAQ Moderator Contact |

Had already checked to see if a new Pc had appeared on my account. Sorry but no such luck. Does being on dial-up have any effect? |

It shouldn't, unless the workunits are not completing download for some reason. But if that was the case you should see a message. Moderator9 ROSETTA@home FAQ Moderator Contact |

I have a total of 39 "ghost work units" on the three hosts I had attached to the project when the sever went haywire. When I saw that none of the downloads were completing (MD5 checksum error), I stopped workfetch, aborted the remaining downloads, and allowed the remaining work to complete before suspending the project. I have just resumed the project on two of the hosts to see if the new 4.82 work units run properly. TTYL Richard Click the Sig! BOINC Wiki |

You could actually download just a single work unit and run it for days of you want. But post again if you see more ghosts appear. I can get one of the server guys to take a look if it becomes a cronic issue. Moderator9 ROSETTA@home FAQ Moderator Contact |

And still they come. Just now at 23.10 PST I am watching 5 WUs D/load on BOINC Manager. But 'MY Account' shows 15 WUs waiting to run. BOINC Manager was empty [for Rosetta] for several hours, until current D/Loads were started on dial up. It would be impossible for 15 WUs to D/L on dial up in the time I have been on line currently, also this CPU was switched off from about 6PM until 9.50 PST, so there was no chance of a sneak attack. Just a thought, but noticed that I had not logged out of 'My Account' from last time I looked there at around 7am PST today and there were not 15 WUs showing then! |

If you detach or log off of a project the server can interprete this wrong. When you come back in it can do all kinds of unusual stuff like generate ghost WUs and computers. In any case a detach event will create a new computer every time, and the system may feed that system new work, which will appear in your stats. Some people have even had it create whole new accounts each time they logged out of some BOINC projects. You may want to look some of this up in the BOINC Wiki, or maybe we can induce Paul Buck to chime in from the shadows on this issue. Also check your preference setting for modem connection issues. There may be somethiing set wrong there, and make certain your BOINC client is set to observe your preferences in the "Commands" menu. If you need more help contact me here. I had a three or four units issued to me earlier which never downloaded. When this happened I was getting -106 and -182 errors from the scheduler. |

Thinks that MOD9 misunderstod my prev post. I meant that I saw that I had not previously logged out of 'MY ACCOUNT', not the project!! I stayed logged onto the project thoughout. |

Thinks that MOD9 misunderstod my prev post. I meant that I saw that I had not previously logged out of 'MY ACCOUNT', not the project!! I stayed logged onto the project thoughout. What I was trying to get at is that anything you do that could be interpreted by the server as leaving, either logging out of your account, or detaching and reattaching could be misinterpreted by the server and produce unexpected results. You are quite correct that a simple log out while staying attached should be no problem because one is a browser function and the other a BOINC function. But, it should also be no problem to stay logged in. In real terms the login is only used for forums, preferences, and stats access. The crunching is handled separately. But, with the new password and ID attach system I am not so certain the system can always keep it straight. Moderator9 ROSETTA@home FAQ Moderator Contact |
