I've had my default run time set to 8 hours (setting is "not selected" in preferences which defaults to 8 hours.) It's worked fine. Now tonight the workunits are finishing up in around 2 hours. I didn't change anything. Double checked the preferences and nothing has changed. In fact if I look at my results and click on the result id, I can see where it lists the cpu_run_time_pref as 7200 where it used to be 28800. It's also not that it takes a long time to complete one model and then decides it can't do another in the remaining time. So, did the default run time change to 2 hours? Charlie -Charlie |

Yes, we have recently changed the default to 2 hours to reduce the rate of errors. It seems to be helping so the default will remain at two hours. I will post something on the news to make it official and also add the 8 hour option in the pull down menu. |

I've had absolutely no problems with the 8 hour run times on both my AMD XP2600+ Linux box and my old slow 300 MHz PII Windows 98SE box. Charlie -Charlie |

also no problems here with 8 hours WUs, ist ist better for your project to run longer WUs, or is it equal? |

also no problems here with 8 hours WUs, ist ist better for your project to run longer WUs, or is it equal? it is equal--choose the run time that works best for you. dial up users with machines with low error rates could set it to 24 hours, and users on high speed connections with high error rates may want to go as low as 1 hour. (we hope to have the error problem fixed soon) |

Two days ago I loaded up my laptop again with some eight WUs, presumed to have a runtime of 4 hours. However, it turned out to be five of 4 hrs and 3 of 8 hrs. And at finish of first WU, all these immediately doubled to 8 and 16 hrs! When checking my account it turns all the WUs I got this time were previously overdue and/or got errors. The good thing is that my Pentium M 1.60 GHz runs them without error, just taking longer per WU than I intended. So it looks that for this type of WUs (resent because of errors or not being send back) you actually inherit the runtime set by the first machine that got the WU instead of the runtime you select yourself. Kind regards and happy crunching. Alain |

The error seems to be graphics related; at least on the machine that my work is running (user "cunnings" only one machine.) It seems to only have a "computation error" when running graphics. This is in the form of a pop-up box (click ok), and stops processing till someone sees the error and passes it. The error seems to only appear when its running graphics, not when its not. |

warning, pedant alert! the homepage says: March 2, 2006 The default cpu run time is now set at 2 hours instead of 8. This change will effect new work units only. that should be *affect*, not effect (in case anyone else cares). |
