Wednesday, October 5th, we will be upgrading our BOINC server to support 5+ clients. Will you announce when this change is completed? I am thinking of upgrading the BOINC client when I get home this evening, but do not want to do so if that is too early. Thanks! Regards, Bob P. |

The webserver is back up, but BOINC still reports project down. It might be back up when you return this evening. As to BOINC 5.x, it's not on the main BOINC page yet (if there's indicationg it's soon to be released, as I've heard some rumors) but can be googled. LHC I'm gathering doesn't have immediate plans to make the switch, but plans on testing it first, so if you do work for them... I think predictor has added 5.x support (or at least there was some talk when they did their last upgrades). Other projects you might be running you'll need to check with... |

I am still working on the site. Just making sure the upgrade went succesfully and did not mess up any of the pages and functionality. I will start up the servers soon if all looks okay and post an update. |

Things look pretty good from my side. I'm able to return and report work and the webpages look pretty good. I'll look into upgrading to the latest 5.x core client later on. |

I'm actually wondering the same thing Jeff, though as LHC is my 2nd client and doesn't support it, I doubt I'll upgrade on the majority of machines anyway :) Free-DC Stats for all projects Custom Stats |

It looks okay to me also. Work seems to be flowing and the site looks okay and seems to be functional. I will post a news update. The look has changed slightly to be consistent with boinc and make future upgrades easier. The upgrade was done because it will be required for the 5+ client that BOINC will soon release. |

This can be googled, but from the change log http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php?platform=win&i=1 New features - Dial-up support has now been enhanced to support service installs, and shared user installs. - Account Management has been enhanced and support has been enabled in the stock install of BOINC. - Alerts have been enabled to provide instant feedback when certain types of errors occur. - BOINC Manager now supports the Microsoft Active Accessibility standard. - BOINC is now capable of using HTTPS and has better proxy support through the use of curl. - BOINC can now use username and passwords for authentication instead of an authenticator. - BOINC now employs a wizard during an attach to project operation to guide people thruogh the process of attaching to a project as well as check for things like proxy configuration issues. Known problems - Applications that were built before October 2004 do not display screensaver graphics with the Service or Shared install type, or the Single-user install type with the password protect screensaver option on NT based machines. - If BOINC runs at the same time as Windows XP 3-D screensavers, the system becomes sluggish and unresponsive. There is a download link there if peeps want to try it out, though standard disclaimer. If you try it and it does anything to your system, you have been warned, yadda, yadda. BOINC 5.x is still officially pre-release.... That said, people have signed up for a beta project here, so peeps probably came here expecting there might be a few issues... That aside, I think I might take a look at it tonight. This Friday my new CPU should be comming, so whether I go back to 4.75 on the new install (assuming Berkely doesn't give the go ahead on the release of the newer version by then), or stick with the newer version will depend what I see over the next coupla days. Would be interested in giving it a look see... |

The is no significant enhancement to version 5 as compared to 4.45 through 4.7x ... the main "feature" driving this release is the "wizard" to attach to projects to be the "simplification" for those coming from SETI@Home Classic. Though they don't give a detailed road map, or much notice before it may change, this is one of the next major steps before shutting down Classic. They already stopped taking new people on over there ... so ... one more step. There are a few bug fixes, but most of those are in the 4.7 series ... the only other thing of note is that 4.45 has the bug where it reports when it is not supposed to ... fixed in 4.72 (which is my main version). So, bottom line, there is no real reason to use version 5 unless you like to live on the bleeding edge ... |

4.45 has the bug where it reports when it is not supposed to What does that mean? I am using V4.45 and I actually LIKE the way it reports whenever a WU is finished (which I would have thought of as a feature, not a bug). Are you saying the newer versions just leave WUs hanging there unreported until it is "time to connect"? *** Join BOINC@Australia today *** |

Are you saying the newer versions just leave WUs hanging there unreported until it is "time to connect"? One man's bug is another man's vital feature. Since each scheduler message does database work, one of the ideas is that with the messages being so small, that doing several things at once makes great sense. So, the idea is to take as much time as needed to upload the result data files, then report the multiple successes at one time. Then get more work in a list and move on ... So, this was doing what many liked, but it was not intended in the design. So, its a bug. I am not saying that it was not easy to get to like it ... but ... |
