Message 96696 - Posted: 21 May 2020, 14:57:33 UTC - in response to Message 96694.

There have been a few changes recently.

The change to Rosetta version 4.20. If you had explicitly whitelisted a prior version in an anti-virus application, it may need to be updated for the new version.

The change in project URL to be https. Have you reconnected to the project under the new URL? If so, perhaps wget needs support for SSL? I don't know why R@h would use wget. I believe all network activity is handled via BOINC APIs.

I don't think it is overheating and I don't overclock. I will get bundles of errors like that. Fine for a few days then 3 or 4 at a time. I think the 13 was due to me resetting the project.

Nope, each and everyone is a Computation error, resetting the project would have them marked as Abandoned.

Message 96705 - Posted: 21 May 2020, 21:38:21 UTC - in response to Message 96701.

Is there any way of diagnosing? I am only running 50% processors / 50% time. I ran memtest86 on Tuesday and did not see any errors.

Maybe wait and see for now? It looks like it most of those errors all occurred around the same time, since then other Tasks have processed without problems.
If you rebooted the system at some stage round then, that may have resolved the problem.
Just keep an eye out for new Errors.

Message 96711 - Posted: 21 May 2020, 23:42:05 UTC - in response to Message 96685.

Name: Junior_HalfRoid_design6_cart_COVID-19_SAVE_ALL_OUT_IGNORE_THE_REST_2nv3om7g_929581_20_0
Task 1184606782
Application version Rosetta v4.20 arm-android-linux-gnu

I reported very similar a few days before. I think it's simply a matter of these Junior_Halfroid tasks needing so much RAM - 1.3Gb-1.4Gb - and insufficient being available on a phone.

I cut my concurrent tasks from 3 to just 2 (having previously reduced from 4 to 3 on my 8-core phone) and everything's running ok now

We seem to be getting an increasing number, and different types, of faulty Work Units.

We seem to be getting an increasing number, and different types, of faulty Work Units.

I posted this same error couple days ago for another 3cl_10aa_AVL**** WU. Mercifully this task only ran for 36 seconds before erroring out. Note the 1st task for WU was aborted by user at deadline!

A new type of Work Unit, a new error.

Same here, "denovo" wus memory errors...

Regarding WinXP and memory:
I'm runnign Vista x86 and it does Rosetta work OK. So, definitely not a 32-bit restriction to available memory.
Most probably app was built against new MS SDK. And they broke (they do this regularly) process creation function for old OS. PErhaps app should be built with XP-compatibility flag turned ON.

And regarding "unpatched" and so on. Clear your minds from marketing bul...t.
Talented hacker will enter in modern Win10 just as easy :)
On each old closed backdor each new update opens dozen new ones...
Old OSes just never had exposed SO many network services as modern OSes do.

For Win XP reason why all Rosetta WU is fails at the start - it can not extract files stored in zip files.

It produce errors like this
unzip: cannot find either ../../projects/boinc.bakerlab.org_rosetta/rep445_0040_symC_reordered_0001_propagated_0001_A_v7_data.zip or ../../projects/boinc.bakerlab.org_rosetta/rep445_0040_symC_reordered_0001_propagated_0001_A_v7_data.zip.zip.

unzip: cannot find either E:/Boinc/Data/projects/boinc.bakerlab.org_rosetta/database_357d5d93529_n_methyl.zip or E:/Boinc/Data/projects/boinc.bakerlab.org_rosetta/database_357d5d93529_n_methyl.zip.zip.
Extracting in slot directory: minirosetta_database.zip
unzip: cannot find either ../../projects/boinc.bakerlab.org_rosetta/database_357d5d93529_n_methyl.zip or ../../projects/boinc.bakerlab.org_rosetta/database_357d5d93529_n_methyl.zip.zip.
Using database: minirosetta_database
Cannot find database: minirosetta_database

While all files mentioned in errors actually present and undamaged - can open and extract them manually, archive integrity checks pass OK .
Probable R@H (or never version of BOINC ?) try to use unzip buit-in in Windows 7 and later only.

Example all tasks from this machine: https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/results.php?hostid=1252064

If admins not gonna fix it and drop WinXP support instead (which is quite understandable - i will run WCG an all WinXp machines then - it works just fine on WinXP ) then disable work distributions for this OS and give a proper error when such clients contact server for job..
Currently it is just waste of resources - server sent tasks they downloaded, all failed, reported to server, get more tasks, fails, etc.
Only limited by hitting WU daily quota.

P.S.
Still use WinXP on one of computers for all last years which running 100% online (always connected) and for active web browsing too (FireFox 52.9). No single virus or security breach/issue for lat 6 (six) or 7 years! While have had some security issues on never Win7 and Win 8.1 machines during this period and in the same home network!. I guess it just not worth for hackers and virus makers to "support" XP too lol . All security breaches stopped about same time WinXp official support is dropped by Microsoft.

Plan to use it for at least 1 or even 2 years more.

Message 96932 - Posted: 30 May 2020, 22:59:19 UTC - in response to Message 95678.

I updated the rosetta app version to 4.20 for the arm, android, and mac platforms. I will update the remaining platforms in the next day or so.

Please post issues regarding this updated app version here.

This update includes:

1. extraction of the Rosetta database into the project directory with all following jobs reading from the same database rather than extracting into the slot directory for every job. This significantly reduces the disk usage per job.
2. checkpointing in the Rosetta comparative modeling protocol. This should significantly reduce wasted cpu time if jobs are preempted often, particularly for jobs that take a long time to produce models.

Finally!
Crunchers suggested and waited for this upgrade for so many years!
And it finally here and works fine.
Thanks!

Tasks beginning 12V3AL seem to target a runtime of only half the default - often less.
This kind of thing has happened before - some incorrect setting attributed to that task family?
Not a problem - they run successfully under their own terms. Just short.

Please post issues regarding Rosetta and Rosetta android 4.1+ application versions here.

No problem with the Android version, just the system requirement is a too high, 2GB of free RAM? That means at least I need to have a device with 4GB RAM. Of course u can say nowadays Android phones come with at least 4GB RAM, but I'm not gonna use a high end phone for crunching 24/7. I'm not out of my mind yet.

I have 1 phone with 4GB RAM, which I'm using for WCG's OPN. I also have 3 phones with 3GB RAMs but none of them can run Rosetta because none of them would have 2GB FREE. All 4 TV-boxes (Android 4.2.2), my major force to conquer WCG SCC, have 1GB RAMs. I said many many times that Android device is the fastest growing computational power in the world. 1.6Billion Android devices were manufactured in 2019 alone. However, if you can't scale down ur work unit and lower the system requirement, you are not gonna get anywhere with Android.

I used to be able to run a number of Rosetta tasks in parallel (Ryzen 3600 with 16 GB of RAM) but recently I have found that I have to force a maximum of 2 in parallel (through the config xml file using this approach https://boinc.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=12710&postid=89659#89659 ).

Otherwise I received Rosetta errors from Win 10 "the memory address could not be read". According to task manager, about 8 GB was available at the time. Unfortunately, the error also caused a number of other WUs from other projects to fail. Memtest86 reports no errors, so I am assuming for the moment that there is some issue with memory allocation within Rosetta.

Another system was able to process the same Work Unit without any issues.
