How can I get some real help. I let the computer run uninterupted for 100% of the day 24/7 and my dual processor xeon PC running Linux cannot complete its assignment in the time allotted. The results section of Rosetta at home shows that my computer had 99.99% of the time to complete its assignment but -100% connection to the interent. What does -100% connection time. This machine always has access to the internet. It wsits behind a router that is already connected and is always connected. No body at Rossetta@home has every contacted me about my concerns that my computer stall on its project. If they don't care then maybe I should care and switch to a differenct project where somebody does care. This is a cry for help. Somebody care. |

Clare, I wouldn't pay much attention to the BOINC stats about % of time connected, because it's bogus. My Linux PC also reports -100 % for "While BOINC running, % of time host has an Internet connection" info and it is processing many WUs per day over the past 2.5 months. Apparently your PC has downloaded WUs but never returned them and timed-out after 2 weeks of waiting. Normally WUs take only 2 hours each, so there must be something else going on. Is Rosetta your first project? Have you run any other projects successfully? Are you sure BOINC process is running when your Linux is up? (because unlike Win, standard Linux install from Berkeley doesn't put BOINC into startup scripts). If you're using a Debian (or similar e.g. Ubuntu) you can re-install BOINC from http://wiki.debian.org/BOINC, which ensures it'll startup upon system boot. Edit: In the few minutes while I was writing my reply, you just returned a valid WU. You need to check your BOINC status and report back to us, so someone can give you valid advice. The cause can also be a security policy, the machine can be alllowed downloading WU's, but doesn't have the right to upload? |
