All:

What is the fix for computation errors and Ubuntu 18.04? I have 2 servers that have yet to complete a 4.07 task after I upgraded to Ubuntu 18.04. I understand there is a problem with the glibc 2.27 but there must be a fix other than creating virtual machines. My Ubuntu machines are all dedicated crunchers and I am getting hundreds of failed work units everyday. I am glad they typically fail in the first 6 seconds but it feels very inefficient to download and upload these work units.
Thx!

Paul

I thought so too, so I went digging. glibc 2.27 seems to have made some changes to the "locale" settings calls that introduce a system call error when linked statically with glibc 2.26. I built a vbox image and determined a work around was to change the locale settings for boinc. The patch worked for jim1348 when he made the changes on an actual machine. The only problem that I saw when playing with the locale settings was the terminal app did not like one of them that I tried and stopped working. I had to install the konsole program and use it while I figured out the locale settings.

This problem shows up with all distributions that have glibc 2.27. Fedora 28 too.
