Hello, I've been a member here for a while however haven't really done much crunching, spending the majority of my time on WCG. However I've decided to branch out just a little and am curious on, exactly, how to manage resources. I have, at present, Seti and WCG however I'd like to add R@H. How would I give the latter 60% of the resources while the other two (since Seti in particular has super super long deadlines) share the remaining 40%, at least for a while? Would that just be inputting 60 into the resources box here, or would I instead put something like 200? I'd like to get the credits up here and contribute the majority of CPU cycles to this project for the time being if possible. Regarding CPU and target runtime. Is there an optimal balance? I have a few machines on 24/7 and a few (like this desktop) that only crunch while idle. Am I right in assuming that several WUs crunched for a day straight, set by the target runtime, would do better than twice as many with each target runtime being 12 hours, since the CPU would have more time to actually calculate with each WU and not have to start from scratch? Or does this depend on the CPU specs? This is an AMD Ryzen 7 1800x with 16 GB of ram. I have other, lower end machines - in particular a few Intel Atom based processors. Should I set the target runtime different for each? Any help appreciated! |

Longer runtime just give time to produce more completed models for a given WU. I'd just leave default settings, unless you have network bandwidth constraints or costs. Resource shares are totaled across all projects, and then each project's resource share is divided by the total. Example: SETI resource share 100 WCG resource share 100 runs each project 50%/50% SETI resource share 100 WCG resource share 100 R@h resource share 300 runs SETI 20%, WCG 20%, and R@h 60%.
