Hi all! I recently talked my boss into running rosetta@home on most of our company's hardware (*proud* :) ), and while setting up the last server to be a cruncher on Friday night, I accidentally made it join the wrong user (we've decided to split the different types of machines into different users to allow more parameters fine-tuning). No big deal, I thought, I'll just re join with the other user. But of course, I forgot to cancel all work and "unregister" the machine from the first user! So now the stats pages show me the same computer under both users (with different IDs though of course), and one of them will be stuck to 0 credit forever... Is it possible to get rid of it? Thanks a lot! - Trib' EDIT: The problem is that it's on two different users, I know host merging would work in this case if it was on the same user (and if it wasn't disabled, of course). =) |

Thanks for taking the time to convince your boss. We appreciate it. Tell you boss I/we appreciate it! If it comes down to it, we'll suck up to him/her! We'll have 'host merge' back soon. As to deleting, the system will allow you delete the hosts once all "Results" for that computer have been purged. It'll take a while. |

Man, that is great that you contribute in this way. I think these efforts are incredible. Couple these simple attributes to the Rosetta project a few times over and it makes a big difference. Founder of BOINC GROUP - Objectivists - Philosophically minded rational data crunchers. |

Just out of curiosity, is this a "weeks", "months", or longer type of thing? I have a couple of systems that I took offline permanently several months ago, that are still sitting in my results page. Not a major cause of stress, but I'd like to get this cleaned up eventually. |

Hum probably counts in months. One of the two computers I have with that problem "lost" all his workunits a couple of weeks ago, yet it's still hanging around my stats. Or maybe it's just something that will be turned on again with the ability to merge host? |

DK and I are looking to upgrade the DB server within the month (likely sooner, but sh*t happens) which should allow for host merging again. As to host deleting, I'm not sure but anecdotally I had a host that required weeks and weeks to before all the WU were flushed and I was able to delete it... |

DK and I are looking to upgrade the DB server within the month (likely sooner, but sh*t happens) which should allow for host merging again. It looks like deleteing a host has actually been disabled as well. See my hosts for a couple of hosts that have no results. You'll just have to take my word for it when I say that deleting them is not an option. Normally the last line in the host's details table is "click to:" which has the options of deleting or merging the hosts. The entire line is missing, rather than just the merge host link. It's possible that this is an easy fix... |

To the best of my recollection (please don't hit me if I'm wrong) I read once that you only can delete your host when "Results" is zero AND your RAC is zero too. Hm... |

To the best of my recollection (please don't hit me if I'm wrong) I read once that you only can delete your host when "Results" is zero AND your RAC is zero too. Hm... You normally are able to delete a host once NO results are on file for that host. I.E they've been removed from "your results". The credit and RAC have nothing to do with it. I've heard that they have disabled the delete feature here at Rosetta, but it works this way at every other Boinc project I know of. hope this helps tony |

It'll take a while. HOW ?
Once a result has been received it waits in the data table for validation and the granting of credit. once it's validated, the "canonical result" is written to the master science database. After this the results you returned are no longer needed, they get tagged for purging and deleting. Once they are purged and deleted from the data table, you are normally free to delete the host, since it has no ties to the data table. does this answer your question? |
No. I am asking when "I am allowed" to delete a host.... HOW do I do it. ie: where do I find the option/Button/etc. and what do I click. I have two hosts with 0 results and would like to delete them. I go to the view your computers, then to the host of concern and look everywhere on the page. (and every other page I can get to..). I see no option to delete a host computer. So I am happy to accept that it can be done... I just would like to know HOW to do it. Proudly crunching with TeAm Anandtech |

Ah, sorry then, OK go to the main rosetta page, click on "your account" click on "Computers on this account View computers " Under this column "Computer ID", select the puter you want to merge or delete Scroll to the bottom of the page, and if this wasn't disabled by the projects you'd see: Click to merge this computer or Click to delete this host. tony |

...unless removing that link was an easy fix to some other problem... :-( It was removed because merging was causing serious performance issues on the server. The BOINC Developers are aware of the issue and are implementing a fix in the next server package. So merging SHOULD be coming back with the next BOINC server upgrade at Rosetta. Since it's not possible to merge hosts, I'd like this WU https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/results.php?hostid=116833 to be removed from this host https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/show_host_detail.php?hostid=116833. That WU is long overdue, it will never be returned, as it doesn't exist anywhere anymore. And as long as it's attached to that host, it won't go away. The new host is because I reset the project after I had my computer upgraded with RAM, and I forgot to click "Existing account" when I attached again, so a new host was created. So, please remove that WU from your database, it's gone! "I'm trying to maintain a shred of dignity in this world." - Me |
