I have nothing to do anymore. Because i'm not a 24/7 user my engine couldn't handle these workunits. The ones I tried were still busy [already nine hours on 1.4%] with Model ONE[1]when I have to power off. And no way I start all over again with 'these creatures.' It seem there are no other goodies in the Rosetta shop because all I get are....largescale workunits. I give up. |

You might already know this but you can reduce the Target CPU run time using: Your Account > Rosetta@Home preferences and change the 'Target CPU run time' for the four profiles (home, school etc.). As you were on model 1, I assume this wouldn't have made a difference in this case though. Can you provide us with your computer spec (OS, CPU, RAM) please. ta Danny |

Target time doesn't make a difference. System specs just might make a difference in how long the units actually take, but they'll most likely always take longer than your preferred time. After 2 hours and 20 minutes, I'm still at model 1, step 300-and-some-small-change (1.5622%). Had another one of those yesterday evening, also took several hours (4 hours 34 minutes) to complete. Just checked my other pc, that one finished a largescale_large_fullatom_relax in just over the preferred time, it took 2 hours and 10 minutes (pref == 2h on all machines). So it seems that there are "normal" wu's available too. The other one and this one are nearly identical, only relevant difference is memory type and oc/non oc't. (irrelevant: winXP home vs pro, graphics card and some peripherals) |

Thanks for your feedback. These largescale jobs come with larger proteins so it will usually take longer to finish. In addition, each WU comes with a different protein shape, and the WU will try to adjust its running course based on the shape of the protein you get. In another word, it is easier for some WUs to find a solution, but harder for others. All these add unstability in terms of WU finish time. Based on your feedback, we are adding features to our application so the WU can maintain a relatively stable run time. Meanwhile, I've cancelled all these largescale jobs queued on our server, so you should not get any more new jobs of this nature. Please accept my apology for this. I have nothing to do anymore. Meanwhile, I've cancelled all these largescale jobs queued on our server, so you should not get any more new jobs of this nature. My last downloads were 30min ago and all WUs were still of the *largescale_large_fullatom_relax_* type. Personally I don't mind, my PCs can cope fine as I run Rosetta with leave-in-mem-when-preempted=yes and 24/7. Looks like you have one of those that get stuck at 1.4%. If you have your run time set at 2 or 4 hours they will finish in that time unless thay get stuck like these. Quite a few of the bad units were issue a few days ago, all cancelled now. You have your computer hidden so we can not see if that is one of them but would bet it is. Dues the hidden compters mean that you are using one from work which you should not run this on? Can't think of any other reasion to hide the system. Pizza@Home Rays Place Rays place Forums |

I've got one in my queue which has run for 14 hours and it has been completed succesfully. It was at 1.xx% for about 12 hours and then jumped to 80%. My queue-size is set for 1 hour per workunit. There's a simple way to see if your workunits hangs and that's checking the graphics. |

It's always a good idea to open the graphic to see if one of those giants is "stuck" at about 1.5% is alive. In the graphic you can see if it moves even it's at model 1 and step zero, because then it's still searching. And yes, those are often stuck at a very low percentage and then they suddenly finish. Normally nothing to worry about, but leaving them to stay in memory while preempted is a good idea, as they else will start over again after being preempted. So, even the devs are working on the WU's not to crash if they're removed from memory while preempted, it's a good idea to let them stay, at least while they are sending out the largescale WU's. I only had one of those monsters; the other largescale WU's I had were not so big, so they ran up to six models. And the one I have right now, a FACONTACT_NOFILTERS is at 34% with only 3 models done.
