I have aQ9450 that will run vbox,
the system only has 8GB of memory, and for python that is not enuff
the motherboard will `only` take max 16GB

Python uses 2078 MB of memory per task and 56 MB of virtual memory.
8 GB will get your 3 tasks and a bit of memory leftover.
Vbox on my system uses rough 217MB in 7 processes. That will fit into your leftover memory.
And BOINC uses 623 MB on my system.

That makes 7 gigs of memory used. You still have 1 gig free for system and other uses.

BOINC and RAH should realize this and send you just that many tasks.

If I try to run python on a Windows 11 PC with 8 GB RAM I get the message that it is too small. Same if I try to run python on a Windows 10 PC with 24 GB RAM and 10 GB availablr to BOINC disk. The only PC with runs python has 12 GB RAm and 40 GB disk.

No problem, just that the only work available are the Python tasks which require VirtualBox to be installed.

No problem, just that the only work available are the Python tasks which require VirtualBox to be installed.

And you have to:
Have BOINC installed and running under a logged in user account.
And hit the "Allow" button on the computer's page. If it says "Skip" then your ok to receive VBox tasks.
And have enough RAM and disk space allocated and free.

But you have to remember that Python will take every core not in use and use it.
You need 2078 MB RAM per core to run. And it looks like you need about 7Gigs of disk space per core for the files.

6 cores is 16,248 MB of RAM and 42 Gigs of drive.

Message 103983 - Posted: 1 Jan 2022, 17:16:48 UTC - in response to Message 103982.

The tasks at just over 20% have grown to 2861MB per task.
Bakerlab folder is 13.7GB on drive but listed as 30.7GB actual.
One Python slot folder is 7.66 actual but drive size is 3.52GB
So if you were wanting to use all cores (6) you would need about 46 GB for the python slots plus Bakerlab folder and BOINC base folder. And then you have to subtract from your drive amount what Windows wants if your running it on the same drive.

You could get a drive similar to mine (Samsung internal mount SSD 250GB for 65 Euro to solve your drive problems. Memory...well that depends on what your MOBO can handle.

I am replacing 2 sticks of 4GB with 2 sticks of 16GB in addition to my 2 sticks of 8GB, but that is going to set me back 127 Euro but will last me the life of this current set up and then some. The 4 GB I have had for a long time.

So you might consider this kind of upgrade as you have money. At least the drive.

BOINC is installed and I included Virtual Box when I did it. I am logged in my user account and am running another project.
When you say "hit the Allow button on the Computer's page" I do not know to what page you are referring.
Thanks for your help.

I'm assuming this is the computer you are using:

https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/show_host_detail.php?hostid=5092234

On that page, hit the allow button where it "Allow VirtualBox Jobs" or something like that

Okay, found it finally and hit "Allow" and all appears well with the World. Thanks for your help. Running Rosetta means much to me personally if it can contribute in any way towards advancing the research to help find cure for Alzheimer's.

They should put it on the Preferences menu like everyone else. But they do their own thing.

You might see if you can put your GPU to work at Folding at Home. They also do all kinds of science.
Cancer is what got me here at RAH many years ago. But that is just one of the many things they look at, just like Alzheimer is one of many things.

Speaking of Alzheimer's disease, I just got some Rosetta 4.2 units related to the TAU protein (I assume from its name).
Short 500,000 ish batch, it seems.

I had one Task last 3.5 hours, another less than 1.5. So unless it gets topped up at some stage i don't see this batch lasting very long at all.

I am running MappingCancerMarks in WordCommunityGrid. Since its property passed from IBM to the Krembil Rsearch Institute, Ottawa, Canada thai is all they send me, with a few OpenPqndemics-Covid-I9. No VirtualBox needed and OpenPandemics GPU tasks are very rare.

You get mostly MCM because the OPN CPU tasks are run at a lower priority since there's the GPU app available and the OPN researchers don't want to get more than a certain amount of data every time they download it from WCG otherwise it'd be too much trouble just sorting through it. knreed and uplinger wrote a couple of posts on this.
It's been like that since June or so.

Yeah, the queue has dropped a lot. Probably 150,000 or so left.

Message 104070 - Posted: 7 Jan 2022, 23:11:28 UTC

I'm having two problems.

First, there's no work.

Second, I'm running two computers and I have one task on each. But Rosetta isn't showing up on the other one.
OK. Since Rosetta isn't sending me any work just now,, there's nothing to show. But I probably would have been aware of this earlier, had I seen it on my other computer.

So, I think the first problem is more important. are others getting work? Is there some reason I'm not? What can i do/

Thank you.

The only work available is the Rosetta Python work.
You must have VirtualBox installed. Also, it's very demanding in terms of RAM and disk space.

I see several devices on your account but only one that has recently (today) contacted Rosetta and it has no tasks assigned.
