when you have a batch of Wu's downloaded and waiting to be run in your computer to get the smaller ones to run first? Or in the reverse: to get the larger ones to run first.? Is there a setting in the preferences that allows you to request this from the server that sends you the Wu's? Can this be done? Note: Please remember I am a newbie and a ultra-plus non techie (Sometimes I have problems finding the on-off button.) and don't use words that are more than 3 syllables long, and if you use acronyms and abbreviations please use footnotes to explain them to me. This is a very valid question. As far as I know, there is unfortunately no way of doing so... Perhaps in the future versions of Rosetta? - trib' PS: Nice to see this project appeals to non tech-savy persons as well :) Welcome aboard! |

when you have a batch of Wu's downloaded and waiting to be run in your computer to get the smaller ones to run first? Or in the reverse: to get the larger ones to run first.? The short answer is no. I have seen much written about what the scheduler does in the case of multiple projects to ensure that WU (Work Unit) are crunched and return on time. I've seen little that refers to single project scheduling. I've looked though the Boinc Wiki but have not yet found any reference as to how Boinc decide which WU to process, other than the WU that have a shorter/earlier deadline are processed first. The size of the WU does not come into play as far as I can tell. EDIT John McLeod VII would be the authority on the scheduler as he has spent a lot of time fine tuning it. Questions? Answers are in the BOINC Wiki. Boinc V6.12.41 Win 7 i5 GPU Nvidia 470 |

The cliend doesn't really "know" which are "big" and which are not. The only way I can think of would be to go in yourself and "suspend" the WUs you wish to run later. And then you'll have to "resume" them after the desired WUs are completed. This is done from the "Work" tab. Select the WU, then click the button on the left for suspend or resume. Note the word displayed on the button changes depending on the status of the WU you selected. But running Rosetta@home just might! https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/ |

This is a very valid question. I may be dumb as an ox when it comes to computer jargon, technology (theoretical and practical) but, in my previous life I was a compliance auditor: always on the look on how things (including data) were processed with an eye of finding ways to improve the processes efficiency wo sacrificing validity and comparability of the results. (Also the legality , I reviewed how grant recipients were using the funds the were using.) My father used to say that the first two complete sentences I ever spoke were: " Why are you doing this the way you are? Isn't it there a more efficient way to do it?" Of course that is an urban legend as a review of the historical records show that my firs complete sentence was " What is for lunch? :P This and no other is the root from which a Tyrant springs; when he first appears he is a protector.†Plato |

when you have a batch of Wu's downloaded and waiting to be run in your computer to get the smaller ones to run first? Or in the reverse: to get the larger ones to run first.? In short, No. There is no way to pause jobs easily other than to guess which are the long running tasks and suspend them all then unsuspend in order. The program will take care of this for you and will adjust to make sure all the tasks (jobs/wu) get done in time. If it think it cannot do this, it will tell you. So in reality you should not have to do anything ro touch anything other than have a chat in the forums and get to know people. Of course when you start to alter things, push buttons, test things out, it gets a whole lot more complicated. Team mauisun.org |
