Just curious if the credit values were changed recently. I used to get around 20-25 points for 10,000 secounds of computer time. Now it seems to be around 7-10. This started around 5 May...I've tried rerunning the benchmarks, but no luck. I doubt I'll ever come close to many of these computers when it comes to points, but it still is a bit of an irk. Is there any information needed for someone to take a look? |

I have a similar CPU running (2GH instead of 2.8) and my credit to seconds ratio has been fairly consistent. The history of my results was just cleaned out so I can't check back to May 4. My unmodified client and manger are returning about 30 credits per 10,000 seconds. So all other things being close, you should be getting around 38. I recall that around the 4th of May they released a new series of WU that were Very Large. You have your crunch time set for two hours or so and I have mine set for 8 hours. You could be doing a whole lot more of uncredited overhead because of that. Try eight hours for a couple of days and see what happens. Let me know. If it works I might bump mine up to 12 hours. Good luck, dag --Finding aliens is cool, but understanding the structure of proteins is useful. |

ok, just switched to 8 hours. Default was supposed to be 4 hours, so we'll see if that makes a difference. Thanks for the reply. One other thing I didn't mention...I made no changes when this happened, and is why I thought a benchmark was run while something else was going on. |

While I encourage you to turn up your time setting, it will not change the credit ratio. The credits are accumulated at the same rate no matter the setting. If your system runs long it will still accumulate credits for that time. Your credit claims are all done based on your benchmark. Nothing has changed on the project side that would make a difference with that. Next time you run the benchmarks make certain the system is running clean. You might even want to cold boot it first. You seem to have an Intel processor, so it may be overheating and throttling. You might check to see if all the fans are working, and that the dust on the heatsink isn't too thick. |

There is always - All kidding asside, the heating could be an issue. Moderator9 ROSETTA@home FAQ Moderator Contact |

Chaplin: CPU type AuthenticAMD AMD Athlon(tm) XP 3200+ Number of CPUs 1 Measured floating point speed 1887.11 million ops/sec Measured integer speed 3192.89 million ops/sec Your benchmarks total about 5k; my Athlon 64 3000+ 754 pin system is getting about 5.5k on the benchmarks. And I'm still getting the 250-256 Rac that I've had since I started crunching here. Your stats definately don't look 50% of what they should be. (Have you run virus, trojan, and spyware scans to verify your system is clean, in case that is causing the system to be a little slower?) Did you switch/upgrade Boinc clients around May 5th? Or was the machine running twice as long prior to May 5th? |

I don't know if heating is a problem for you, but on the CPU I was using to compare, GenuineIntel Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 2.00GHz, running Microsoft Windows XP Professional Edition, Service Pack 2, (05.01.2600.00), the CPU runs at a constant 80 - 82C, 23/7, 100% usage, in a notebook case. It gets maybe an hour off each day for transport. dag --Finding aliens is cool, but understanding the structure of proteins is useful. |

Chaplin: I didn't wait for your results, but pushed it up to 12 hrs from 8. And I reviewed the first two this morning... no change the ratio, 3.08. Sorry. dag --Finding aliens is cool, but understanding the structure of proteins is useful. |

Whoops.. I grabbed the computer#78129, not Chaplin's account. So.. what are the specs on your computer, Chaplin? cpu, cpu speed, benchmarks, etc? |

Specs on the computer should be visible...but its a 2.8 P4, 480 Ram (integrated video/audio) running XP with SP2. It's a laptop if that would cause some overheating, and the fan is running constantly. I never really turn it off, except for the occasional reboot, so I figured why not make it do something while I sleep. (It has cracked hinges, so I use it for a desktop) no changes were made to the client, ever. still 5.2.13. not sure what happened but I came home to find my last result at previous levels. So maybe it fixed itself. I'd run a benchmark, but if it stays this way, I wouldn't want to mess things up. |

To Chaplin. From what I see every thing looks ok. But thats just my perspective. With your current batch of WUs, your get .247 credits per 1000 seconds of crunching. By comparison, my recent Dell addition a P4 2.8 is getting .151c/1000sec. This is the box here. Its sole purpose in life is to run Bonic projects. You can double that amount since I have HT turned on, so if its running two rosey WUs, I'm getting the the neighborhood of .302c/1000sec. The only thing that stands out to me is that your laptop only shows 1 cpu. Does it support HT? And if it does, have you turned it off? |

When you started this thread I looked at your benchmarks and they seemed quite low. Now they look normal. Your laptop must have been in a low-power mode during the earlier benchmark. Now it has re-run the benchmark while in full-power mode. |

Ok, HT (Hyper threading?) I don't believe that's supported on this processor. I read that every P4 at 3.06 or higher has it, but lower speeds can go either way. I have yet to see anything that would suggest that I have it. And yup, my current credit seems to be ok, but I'm still a bit confused over the near week that it dropped over half. I did run a benchmark during the first few days to see if that would help, even shut down everything but the essentials to try and 'boost' the benchmark a bit. I noticed after a reboot that I had UD running at the same time, as it has been recently. If anything, wouldn't another program like boinc lower my score instead of raising them? If nothing else I figure it would have to at least lower my benchmark...but it seems to be doing the opposite. Thinking back, I don't believe UD was running during the start of the lower scores, and I know it wasn't running when I did a manual benchmark, but is running now (and boinc). |
