The "can you help Rosetta" thread is getting a little long and it doesn't mention this - figured it'd warrant a new thread. I have started to design a website and thought how great it'd be to have a Rosetta Ad banner. No animation of course, just Rosetta & Home and maybe a short explanation. Additionally to using it on websites, it could also serve as a signature for other forums. One way to get attention without spamming the forum every couple weeks ;) Something of this nature, 5 minutes in photoshop, I'm sure someone more knowledgable can do a much better job: If you wanted to turn this banner into a link to the Rosetta frontpage, you could just type this HTML code: <a href="https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/"><img src="http://homepage.hispeed.ch/soriak/rosetta_banner.gif"></a> Note that not all boards support HTML coding (this one doesn't, or it'd show up as the banner ;)) you can, however, also use vB Code to accomplish the same on a Forum: Just replace { and } with [ and ] respectively. {url=https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/}{img}http://homepage.hispeed.ch/soriak/rosetta_banner.gif{/img}{/url} (important: no space between the tags, or it won't work) and it will look like this: My kingdom for a preview button hehe, that took a lot of edits :p |

Very nice, good job. If I may offer a suggestion: I've tried various "phrasings" and I've had the best results with the catch-phrase: "Put your PC to work to fight disease" because "processor cycles" term might not be clear to non-tech users. I played around with it some more, this is actually a decent learning experience in Photoshop hehe. Haven't used the program much for things other than resizing and some very basic editing. This time I made the "Rosetta@home" text and the rosetta image two different layers, which makes it easy to move them around at will and create some cool (read: tormenting) background graphics ;) I uploaded that Photoshop document as well, in case anyone wants to set their own text and background, it'll only take a few clicks from here to do it. Just remember to resize the image first - I kept it at the downloaded size to ensure higher quality. Download it here And in just a few minutes you can torment other readers with signatures like this: or this hehe: I'll try later to make some that can actually be used hehe, hopefully we can get a decent selection in this thread so that there's something here for everyone. edit: Phew, just in time before the edit times out. Here's one I think will be useful for boards that use a black background: |

Here is another one. This one was designed by Simon Smith, owner and manager of the betterhumans.com website, to promote the betterhumans Rosetta@home team (it appears in place of the Google banner at betterhumans.com whenever Google doesn't have anything else to display). For general Rosetta@home promotion the reference to the betterhumans team would of course have to be removed. But I think it still is interesting as a design example. The background is meant to symbolize the benefit of determining/designing protein structures (left) for humans (right). I would have to ask Simon whether he wants to make this available for general Rosetta@home promotion. Team betterhumans.com - discuss and celebrate the future - hoelder1in.org |

I've always been partial to the "Rosetta, computing with purpose." slogan that's discussed in my bumper stickers thread. Add this signature to your EMail: Running Microsoft's "System Idle Process" will never help cure cancer, AIDS nor Alzheimer's. But running Rosetta@home just might! https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/ |

I like the banners! I wonder if others would be willing to submit their banner ideas and then let's have a contest to vote for the best one. I note that another project still in alpha-test, Docking@home, is already having their banner contest and voting on it. IMHO, Rosetta should get on the bandwagon and have their own banner thing. I think it would be great for the project: the artful folks here are as good as any on any other project. As I have suggested in the past many moons ago, I think there should also be a desktop wallpaper included. In other words, we would be voting for the winning large banner, small banner, and desktop wallpaper. They would not necessarily be the same design, although likely so. But in any case, the wallpaper would be designed for the three or four most popular wallpaper sizes for easy download from the site, and linked to from the R@H homepage. (Click for detailed stats) |
