Is there a difference in performance between the BOINC Manager with the interface and the command line interface? I only crunch Rosetta, so I don't need most of its utilities. The list of queued work units is neat, so I can see what it's working on - but if it slows things down (even if only a little) I'd much rather get more work done. I rarely look at the graphics, and of course the screensaver is turned off. Should I switch to the command line? Or even set it up as a service? I only have one Account, so it always starts up - anything in terms of performance I'd get out of that? I probably should have thought of asking this earlier, but better late than never ;) |

not much, but it depends more on your gear. Use "taskmanager" and see what percentage "rosetta_5.25_windows_intelx86" is using, then look how much might be saved by stopping Boincmgr.exe. Boinc.exe is the daemon that must run. So if you see a high boincmgr.exe percentage, then your answer might be yes. However, for most it's not noticeable. tony |

Thanks for your reply ;) Boincmgr.exe uses 0%, so I guess that settles it :p |

Thanks for your reply ;) On some really, REALLY OLD machines you might see Boinc.exe up to 3% and boincmgr.exe at 1%, so it might save a snidge for them. by putting that 1% to use, but like I said, it's not much. tony |
