There's a poll for BOINC at Berkeley:

http://boinc.berkeley.edu/poll.php

Several volunteer computing projects, including Climateprediction.net, Einstein@home, and SETI@home, use software called BOINC. If you participate in projects like this, we request that you answer the following questions. This will help BOINC-based projects increase participation and achieve greater scientific results.

Please answer as many questions as you want, then go to the bottom and click OK. If you previously completed the survey but your answers have changed, please complete it again - your new answers will replace the old ones.

Done.

Here's a link to the current results of the survey.

And as the results for Sex are:
4917 Male
166 Female

I especially like to invite the ladies to take part, don't let only us blokes decide what's supposed to be best!

I was wondering if the true population of users is as lopsided as the poll results. I wouldn't think males would be any MORE likely to participate in such a poll... so I'm thinking the user base may actually be <10% female. I found that one surprising as well.

Three questions are quite funny :

- No - I was running BOINC, but stopped because...
- No - I tried running BOINC, but...
- No - I never tried running BOINC, because...

Not too many of those who stopped using BOINC will fill out the form.

Those people - especially the lost Classic SETIzens - are mostly gone and will not even know that there is such a survey.
________________

This one is lacking one plausible answer :

- Where did you learn about BOINC projects?

The missing answer would be "My previous DC project migrated to BOINC"

This applies to CPDN, SETI and (limited) to Folding, all together quite a big group
