why when I'm downloading the new job, in "Works" I have the job and at the same time in "Trasfers" I have other job different from what he is in Works? And then what it is in trasfers it does not go to end in works?

Hi, Teto-Ita,

I am not sure I quite understand, but I'll try to answer the question. The "Work" tab shows Work that is either in progress and has an "active" status or that is queued for execution and has the status "waiting for execution" or, as long as the download is not finished, is labelled as "downloading".

When you download a finished work unit you often download new work at the same time. In the work tab the new work is labelled "downloading" and in the "Transfers" you find both the uploading finished work unit and the downloading new work unit at the same time.

Did that answer your qeustion? If it didn't, just ask again.

Regards,

Christoph

I also am unsure of his question, but he might be trying to find out why the list in the "transfers" tab, doesn't match the one in the "tasks/work" tab. If so, then it's because each WU you see on the "tasks/work" tab takes multiple files (of different types) on the "transfers" tab. I.E WU "one" consists of several different files that have to be transfered to complete it.

don't know if this helps

Teto, you are asking in the right place... but your question is unclear. The main confusion about it is whether you are sending back results to the server, or downloading a new piece of work. So, which direction is the transfer you are asking about?

I think they may be trying to ask why the work unit (task) shows on the tasks tab after it has completed. Let me just outline work unit life cycle, and label things A,B,C and then you can reference the point in the process that you are asking about.

A) contact the project and download a task.
There will be several files shown on the transfers tab to download the one work unit. The work unit will show immediately in the tasks tab with a status of "downloading" until all of the transfers are completed.

B) process the work unit.
Once the downloading is completed, nothing will be shown in the transfers tab. The work unit will be shown in the tasks tab and the status will be "ready to run", "running", or "suspended".

C) Processing of work unit is completed.
Now BOINC must send your results back to Rosetta. The status shown on the tasks tab will be "uploading". A file will be shown on the transfers tab. This is your results being sent back to Rosetta. Once the transfer is completed (it is only about 200k, so should go very quickly), the status will go to "ready to report" and there will be nothing shown in the transfers tab.

D) BOINC updates to the Rosetta project periodically.
At a later time, BOINC will update to the project and report the results. When this process is finished, the work unit will be removed from your tasks tab.

...in general, BOINC will take care of all the transfers and work units for you and does not require you to do anything. But it is interesting to watch how it works, and understand what it is doing. So hopefully you are just asking to learn more about how it works, and not having a specific problem. Either way, let us know if things are still unclear.

It seems to me that the question being asked is why there isn't a one to one correspondance between the files downloaded in the transfers tab, and the jobs that actually show up on the jobs tab.

The reason for this is that the transfers tab shows the actual uploads and downloads of the files themselves. It takes several files for a single job to run, which is why they don't match up exactly.

You've got your computers hidden, so it's not easy to tell if things are broken or not. However, if you start seeing correctly completed jobs for your computers, then everything is working correctly.

I will try to explain better this problem, but i'm italian end don't speak weel english sorry.
The tab "Work" end the tab "Trasfers" at the same time will they appear: "work" downloading some file, and "Trasfers" downloading others files with not the same name, and to the end of all this, Work tab running and ready to run the files, and the tab trasfers it is cleaned up, but the file that there were before, I do not know where they have gone to end. To the end of all this, you have understood, is like if you took to two times the job at the same time, a various one from the other, one goes to end in the "Work", and the other with different names in the tab transfers where they have gone?

A BOINC workunit can consist of several files, not all projects have one file per workunit.

Einstein even has a bunch of workunits stuffed into the same data file so it often does not download any data files for a new workunit.

Rosetta needs more than one file for each workunit (plus a few files that are needed by all workunits of course).

So there is not a 1:1 relation between downloads and workunits here.

Sorry,I have forgotten to say you, that this succeeds when I allow new works. And i take two or three days of the works, for off line job.

Yes i know,a BOINC workunit can consist of several files, but when in box "Work" there are a lot of files "ready to run" and two "Running", and at the same time, in tab "Trasfers" there are a lot of file that they are being downloading, but with different names, this is not correct. when the tab "Trasfers" finisced of downloading the files, where those have gone ???

What you're seeing is correct.

Picture a basket of tomatoes. Call that basket of tomatoes a WU displayed on the "Work" tab. Now take an empty basket (request for work) and transfer some tomatoes to it. You have to transfer the tomatoes one at a time. Get a Roma and tranfer it to the basket, now get a "better boy" and transer it to the basket, now get a "bigger boy" and transfer that one. While each tomatoe can have a different name, it all constitutes the WU once it's finished tranferring. Once all tomatoes/files have been transfered, then a WU appears in the Work tab and it has a status of "ready to run" or "running".

Sorry but you have not understood to me.
I know i have to transfer the tomatoes one at a time, and for example, i get a Rome and tranfer it to the basket, get a "better boy" and transer it to the basket. But after this in "Transfer" tab there are others file with name like, Milano or Venezia that they do not go, and i don't see then in the basket, you understood this ???

right now my Work tab looks like this:

Pay attention to the "leiden classical" WUs which have a status of "uploading".

Now, here's what my "transfers" tab looks like.

Leiden is down at the moment, so the upload of these TWO wus can't be completed. Notice there are two files for each WU attemping to upload and in the Transfers tab, there is a "retry" communications countdown. boinc is waiting that period before retrying to send them.

Okey is correct in your case. In my case the tab work is same of you, but the tab trasfers at the same time, it is in downloading others files with different names of work tab !!!!????
Thats is very mysterious.
Where they have gone those files with different names ?????
It is like if it took to two times the job, one that go in the work tab, and one that go...... where ????
Excuse me to everyone of you men for my bad English.....

Also, you can use Italian if you want. (though probably best to try both at first) someone here may be able to speak Italian. I know some people on my team do :-)

The topic title "Double various job" may indicate that he wants to know why he gets two jobs from one project and just one from another.
