Yes, thats Weedsqueezer's 6600ES running at almost 4000mhz on Linux.
The machine that is listed as #1 in RAC is a Kentsfield 6700ES..NJKID's...
4 cores not 2 like the Conroe(core duo)and is also running at close to 3800mhz and also on linux..
The reported speeds on the Rosetta pages can be deceptive as they just show what the stock speeds are, so comparing one to another is pointless as you don't get all the information needed to make an intelligent comparision.

Considering that my 24/7 AMD Athlon 3500+ gets about 260 average credit, and my dedicated Intel P4 HT 3.2GHz gets about the same, I'd say that the ~2 times more credit (does anyone have a link on exactly how dhrystones, whetstones etc. factor into the calculation of an actual credit?) for a presumably stock 24/7 E6600 or E6700 is a good deal in terms of credit/$.

What's the best <$200 motherboard for overclocking the Conroe series? I'm looking to optimize crunching performance, not gaming performance; from what I've read the ~$150 Gigabyte GA 965P DS3 motherboard looks like the best value for this.

Does memory speed matter with crunching in general? That is, is there an appreciable difference in crunching performance on a system where the only difference is 512MB DDR2-400 and 512MB DDR2-800?

The Asus P5W DH is also a very good choice but close to 200 $ I believe. I read as well that the GA 965P DS3 overclocks core 2 cpus very well however there are rare reports where no overclocking at all is possible (reason yet unknown).

Most apps and benchmarks do not gain much from faster memory. In fact there is no difference between DDR2-667 and DDR2-800 since memory speed with core2 duo cpus is limited by the fsb-bottleneck of the cpu which just can't use the increased memory bandwidth. DDR2-400 and DDR2-553 will be a bit slower but most probably only marginally. However in order to overclock well you need overclockable RAM, which means quality RAM. I'd rather buy good 533 or 667 pieces than any 800 pieces.

The Gigabyte DS3 mobo seems to clock the best using Allendale CPUs, so I would probably try an E6400 with that one. The ASUS P5W DH is a pretty good mobo, but it's usually more than $250. ATM it's $269.99 at the Egg.

The new Mac Pros are going to be very serious crunchers. Also, if Intel are indeed able to release Kentsfields and Clovertowns before the end of the year, Mac Pros running dual Xeons will raise the bar again.

That Dell isn't a Core 2 Duo. It is just a Core Duo. There is a new desktop chip named the Core 2 Duo. So far, it's peformance is better than any AMD chip out there.

Yeah, the T2xxx is a Core Duo CPU. The Core 2 Duo mobile is the T7xxx. And it utterly destroys any other chip. Stock client at 3.1ghz on an E6600, I think, was about 3000, 6000.
