Hello,
I installed a new linux computer yesterday for the project, today i updated boinc to the newest version But so 3 WUs (18 hours of work) ready to be send were lost, is there a way to send the results manually? How can I make boinc to send the files?

thanks!

Tom, could you outline how you intalled the new BOINC release? And what backup you may have made prior to the new release? It should be possible to upgrade BOINC and resume the existing WUs (at least it is on Windows).

So... you updated BOINC, then copied back that projects folder? Did you get the SLOTS folder as well? ...and then you fire BOINC back up and... what? there are no WUs listed?

no, i didn't backup the slots folder :(

i only did a backup of the projects folder because i thought everything would be in it...

i installed the new version and the stored WU in "transfers"
were gone..., not sent according to my rosetta profile.

does anybody know if there's a function like "system restore" in linux.

so is there no way copying back the projects folder will work?

Yes, this is always true. The project can never be dependant on everyone's PCs and ISPs running flawlessly. So, it recovers.

That's the best advice you gave yourself ;-) Thank god it wasn't a climate model you lost (after some 1000 hours of crunching)...

Anyway, if you make backups of BOINC (i.e., if you do climate modelling), please be shure to copy the whole directory of BOINC. Of course be shure to exit BOINC before you do so.

Happy crunchin'!

Yes Tom, I should have clarified, you actually should have a copy of the entire directory, and that way you could revert to the original BOINC version with the WUs it was working on at the time... while you review what went wrong with the new release install. Or work through the cache before upgrading to avoid any such problems.
