Today I started receiving WU's named FRA_t368_CASPR_*. It seems to me they are part of the CASP refinement experiment, an extention to the modelling already performed within regular CASP.

The first thing I have done is suspending CPDN, which I had restarted after finishing my last CASP workunit.

What is lacking is information from the Baker Labs. Of course I understand that everybody is working like crazy to get the science done and I am more than willing to provide my cpu-cycles. However the project started with almost daily updates from David Baker, which now arrive less than once a week.

This task has not been taken over by any other staff-member of the group.

I feel sorry for this, as this lessens the bond I feel with the project. I plead with the Bakerlab to strenghten the provision of information for the chrunching community, starting with some information on our participaption in the CASP-refinement.

From what I gather from other posts, the refinement phase will run until around the 28th (I am not sure what the exact date is).

I was also very pleased to read Dr. Baker his update!

It was just meant as a reminder that the flow of information was not as good as we started of with. But as I also mentioned I am crunchin Rosetta 24/7 again, I will at least keep this up till the end of August to help the CASP refinement as much as possible.

Yeah, I think they were simply very busy leading into CASP, especially when they got tons of work to do in a short period of time. The CASP refinement seems to be very important stuff as well. The protein prediction community of scientists will likely benefit greatly again by this years CASP and Rosetta will benefit as well since Baker and his lab will continue to learn new things and refine their entire process.

I agree that it would be nice if they could post daily updates. I also know from personal experience that posting a daily journal can be fairly difficult to do. There are many things that the Baker Labs team does; they work with developers to enhance the software; they work with other scientists and share their information with them; they are available and participate in national scientific media (and even an Associated Press article).

Be confident that your efforts are making a difference. Even if my or your computers do not find a lowest energy candidate, at least we are clearing the way for other computers to find it! Instead of fretting about recent news, why not talk to some friends and family and inspire them to start crunching for Rosetta?

I get the impression from reading Dr. Baker's thread that they are also very busy with the AIDS grants. The Gates Foundation was given the money to distribute to the labs on the condition that it is spent. The money can't be banked. All the labs have to share info and results as I recall. I'm sure they're all running around like headless chickens. So much to do!
