I'm staying out of the credits debate but I'd like to address a related issue.

I've seen some of the big crunchers make comments about how their opinion is more important because they crunch more units. They tell people that crunch less to be quiet based on that fact.

I'm not here to name names or pick a fight with anyone specific.

However, I want to assert that all crunchers are important, whether they contribute 1 computer or 50, be this by choice or by necessity. The importance of one's opinion does not increase with the size of one's farm.

Yes I agree all who crunch are equally important, but some do absolutely nothing for Rosetta. They just register, do bugger all and complain about everything.

Thanks Matt, I agree with you but......., it seems they really weight more than the others. I post a message in the "other" thread yesterday and today my message dissapeared (the message was not offensive to anyone was only my point of view about the f****ng credits), but I have a life, i crunch Rosetta only to contribute to the science and dont want to be involved in discussions

The more you contribute, the more you are "allowed" to complain? People who contribute not much have to shut up? You can't be serious..

There are people that don't have a crunching farm, most of the Rosetta participants have only one computer and try to do their best. Why shouldn't they mention problems/wishes?

Regarding the posts in the last 24h I wish those people who "discuss" leaving Rosetta would would stop discussing and really leave! NOW! It's IMHO better for the project. The loss in crunching power is not so great as many of them believe.

Everyone, please don't start fighting here. There are plenty of other threads for that.

Please don't start a conflict here.

This thread's message is positive and inclusive. We're all important. You. Me. Everyone else.

The other threads consist of people fighting over who is right and who is wrong. They are divisive.

Ricardo you said, "i crunch Rosetta only to contribute to the science."

If the contribution to the science is your only concern (and I think it's a great one!), then the credits do not matter. The mere fact that your computer is crunching is all you need to know that you are contributing and making a difference. Sure, watching the numbers is fun and it's good to know if your computer is doing a good/bad job at crunching, it's all secondary and is not part of the BIG PICTURE.

The big picture is to study proteins so that the project can help major breakthroughs happen for modern medicine. Most anything else related to the project is so small and minor, why waste our time/energy on it? Let's move forward and encourage friends and family and even strangers to crunch for the betterment of mankind!

RAC SCHMACK - The point of this thread is that all crunchers large and small are important. The luck of the draw (WU distribution) means that any cruncher has a chance to find the lowest RMSD or best fold for an unreleased protein.

Please keep it upbeat and keep crunching, there are many other threads for gripes and flames ;-)

In that case, I should not be within 200 light years of this forum, let alone participate in the project at all.

OK well the comments people from my team are making about poeple with low rac not deserving as much say as others with higher racs is due to the recent threads and alegations abotu us cheating with the opti clients as you know (but lets not start that again). On our Forums people such as Movieman, and the majority of the team, will treat everyone equal from someone with a 30K rac to a new guy with a 1K rac. However when someone with a rac that can be equaled by a p3 you CAN pick up form the local scrapheap (KevinT term: ZeroRACer) starts accusing someone who has put $50,000 into a project of cheating and pestering them into leaving, how can you say that is right?

There are projects outside of BOINC...

I've never been one to complain about this in the past, but if you ask me, SETI is proof of the depravity of man! LOL! For Pete's sake folks, it's about the sorriest excuse for serious science I've ever come across.

But I do wish Rosetta had their recruiting success!

At one time, SETI was the only DC project (long before BOINC - I started crunching WUs back in the 90's and had nearly 100k hours before they shut down classic) and seemed like a good use of spare CPU cycles. That's also where the strong base came from. Now, there are many choices and each can devote their resources as they see fit

To each their own, that's what makes the world go round ;-)

Crunch what your heart desires!
