Its a 933 with 384mb but its only on for about an hour at a time, about everyday. Doesn't have enough HD space to hibernate :P
Rosetta wasn't adjusting to the 1hr quickly enough, and I will prolly lose too much in way of checkpoints. Einstein is like 40 hours... too short a deadline ;)

I've been crunching mainly rosetta, so I haven't really looked around. Anything out there with REALLY short work units? Thanks!

SIMAP needs about an hour/WU on an Athlon XP@2200MHz, about 1:40 on a P3s/1266.

Your box is a Pentium Coppermine so it should do SSE already, which means that you can use their standard client (they have an optional client for CPUs without).

WU size on HD is about 2MB, RAM requirements are very moderate.

They fill an already usable medical database for comparing protein sequences.

Attached, and canceled the einstein since I won't be running this computer another 30 hours before I leave... Progress keeps updating, so thouse should be checkpoints. ATM its saying under 4 hrs (only been 2 minutes...)
No pretty pictures though :(

I think Chess960 is supposed to have really short WUs. I think they've got both a Windows and a Linux client, as well. I'm not sure if that project would interest you, but it's worth taking a look.

Chess WUs need about 200 seconds on my P3s/1266 but their chess engine sometimes refuses to shutdown properly when a result is done, causing either the chess client (which is a wrapper for the engine) to hang or destroying all results that follow, unless you kill the hanging task and clean the slot directory.

It is not in a state for "start and forget" yet.

As of the graphics in SIMAP : They are working on a screensaver but graphics slow down the crunching quite much. The SIMAP graphics will most likely be quite lite, showing the comparison matrix with their similarity values as colors without the need for 3D rendering, but nevertheless it will affect the speed.

XtremLabs http://xw01.lri.fr:4320/

Work units are 10 mins each.

It's not a particularly interesing project, it just check for internet activity and if the computer is in use or not. It's still in testing really and they are trying to find out how to improve Distributed Computing.

This project would really lift off when they split the client into two. One to check internet connection (since you could then run another project at the same time) and one to see if the CPU is in use (though I recon they should alter this to check if another CPU intesive project is running)

Also they need to change thier creditting system to 10 mins = xx credits, since WorkDone is the same no matter what speed CPU you have.

Another with less than 1hr units, works very nicley on my PentiumIII 1GHz. Has simple graphics if you so desire. It is aslo used to teach their students.
Still in relatively early stages (needs better server setup, but hey 'boinc' was designed for crap server hardware ;-)

Both these have low bandwidth usage as well :-)
