So I have 2 computers, my bandwith is limited, so I want to setup my other say.. (B) computer using modem, so BOINC will connect whenver it needs to upload or download data. Is there a way to make that (B) computer become a WU server ? just like they had in SETI a few year ago. Where one computer will act as a server and download and upload all required WU through internet connection. While others will connect to that server using intranet to get new WU(that were downloaded and stored in that server) and upload completed WU. That way I can control my bandwith. Too bad I'm limited only 750mb a month. It's cheaper to connect using Modem to get WU every weekend where the rates are cheapest. |

Whiskey29: To reduce bandwidth, you can set your WU run time to 24 hours. You can set your cache to 3 or 4 days; and tell Boinc not to connect automatically. Every 3 or 4 days, you could dial in to upload and download new data. Perhaps you should ask on the Number Crunching forum for ideas on how to switch from using broadband for most of your internet connection, but switch to using the dialup machine as a gateway for Rosetta. No on the Queue server. I think I've seen several people ask about a feature like that. (Add it to the Wish List.) Rosetta Moderator: Mod.Tymbrimi ROSETTA@home FAQ Moderator Contact |

You could (if you have, or can study, networking skills) set up one computer to be used as a proxy to the internet for the other. So, Machine A has an internet connection (dial-up I believe in your case), Machine B needs to report a WU... Machine B uses intranet to Machine A and askes it to make an internet connection and relay the data back to B (that is what "proxy" is if you search the word). In this mannar, B is responsible for his own WUs and actually doing his own downloads. Anything beyond that, you would need some kind of add-on software or some programming skills to trick the one machine in to ordering work for the other and reporting back it's results as though they were it's own. This is not recommended, and not directly supported by BOINC/Rosetta. Rosetta Moderator: Mod.Sense |
