currently running version 5.34, computer is running fine, no errors, total credit and average credit both going up but the results keep dropping. Is there a problem with the program or do I need to make adjustments to my computer for the new program. Thanks for your help, FirePage |

... the results keep dropping. ... Not sure what you mean? The credit is dropping from one result to the next? The results disappear from your computer (which is normal, by the way), or exactly what? From what I can see of your computer and its results, things look OK at first glance. You have a respectable credit built up in <2 months here! Congratulations. Say a little more about your concern and we can reassure or advise you. River~~ |

currently running version 5.34, computer is running fine, no errors, total credit and average credit both going up but the results keep dropping. If you are referring to the number of results listed on your Account Pages, then a dropping number is possible since results are purged from the BOINC database at regular intervals. This is done to keep the database as small/fast as possible. |

If you are referring to the number of results listed on your Account Pages, then a dropping number is possible since results are purged from the BOINC database at regular intervals. That is right - results disappear from your box soon after crunching, and from the website a few weeks later. And glad I am of it too, or the pages would take ages to download by the time I'd been here a year ... The 94 shown under the Results heading in the table of copmuters means the number of results you can still look at, not the total you have done since you joined. As you have probably found, if you click the number you get to look at your results, one to a row listed 20 at a time. The only lasting evidence of your past contributions is the credit awarded. This is shown against the computer (each computer, if you get more than one) and the total credit of all your computers is shown on your account page. As some results are more valuable than others (ran for longer, or on a faster machine, etc) there would not be a lot of value in keeping a count of the number of results returned. R~~ |

... total credit and average credit both going up ... The average credit is intended to give a rough estimate of your "recent" contribution to the project by adding up all your credit but applying a "discount" to older credit. Eventually the average credit will start to jitter around its stable value - so you will see this fall and rise at times even when you are doing nothing different. It can even fall when you turn work in, if the discount on the previous value is larger than the new credit added :( If you stop crunching for a while you should in theory see the average credit decay at a rate of 50% / week on the reducing balance, so that the average credit never quite disappears entirely. Total credit is easier to understand - the simple total of every credit you are awarded. If this ever drops there is a problem! River~~ |

i've seen a few people mention this recently - I think the 'Results' bit is a bit misleading. Instead of just the number available to view in the database, maybe it should say '28 of 812' where there are 28 available to view, or something like that... |

... I think the 'Results' bit is a bit misleading.I agree Instead of just the number available to view in the database, maybe it should say '28 of 812' where there are 28 available to view, or something like that... I think it is deliberate that the system does *not* count total results due th their differing values. (Part of the break with SETI classic?) If so, then the fix is to make the column title in the hosts page something like "Recent Results" so that new people don't get misled. R~~ |

Thank You All ! I understand the purging of the database is necessary. I was concerned the information was not getting back to the over-all project. Credits & results are not important as long as I can contribute with the maxium of this computer for a cure. Thanks, FirePage |

Thank You All ! Credit tells you that. It is awarded automatically if the software finds the results you returned were ok; in which case the uploaded results have been passed onto some further system outside of our view. On this project error results are given credit if the team learn somthing about the program from the errors they see, and this kind of credit is typically awarded manually (or by a script) a day or three later. The reason for giving this kind of credit is that one of the missions of this project is to develop and improve the Rosetta program, so that bug solving is as much on-mission as a succesful run. So, whether you are here for the science or for the credit, always allow BOINC to return all your tasks, even the failures. Of course *others* may use credit for the bragging rights -- but that is entirely optional! R~~ |

Thank You All ! Thanks for the info. Not here for the bragging rights or credit, seen to many die from cancer and only hope my computer is running to the best of its ability to produce results that make a difference. As I am new to this the only way to gauge the system proformance is by the BOINC numbers sent back. Thanks, FirePage |
