I noticed in http://www.boincstats.com/stats/host_os_stats.php?pr=rosetta&st=0&to=100 that there appear to be 19 freebsd machines working on rosetta. I however haven't been able to get my freebsd's to do it. can anyone tell me how they got it working on freebsd? - when I try the linux client on freebsd(5.5-STABLE) it reports available memory wrongly and so won't proceed getting work and if I build boinc using freebsd port collection the freebsd platform is not supported by rosetta so won't get work if someone is doing it can they explain as I have several freebsd boxes that are under utilised and potentially available for rosetta |

I've not done it myself, and maybe someone who has can give a more helpful response. First point to make is that Rosetta does not officially support *BSD. There are not enough people wanting to use it to make it a priority use of the programmers' time. Have you seen this page on the BOINC website about how to use anonymous platforms? To run an anonymous platform you'd need to compile both the client and each version of the Rosetta app, whenever it changes, which is a lot more frequent than on other projects. That means you'd need the Rosetta source as well as the BOINC source. The BOINC source is no problem. I am not even sure that Rosetta release the source at the time each new app is in use (anyone comment please?) if not then the anon route is not open to you. And in that case, I am curious how those hosts in BOINCstats got it to run for them (BOINCstats usueally ignores hosts with zero credit). If the sources to the BOINC client and the Rosetta app are both available, follow the instructions in the link I gave above. River~~ |
