Message 2404 - Posted: 6 Nov 2005, 3:18:03 UTC - in response to Message 2403.

Ive run UD, FAD of course, have tried F@H. I like the idea of what Rosetta is about. But my patience is at an end for some of the useless comments I've seen in helping people get this program running. If these people want my help they need to realize some of us do not know Boinc whatsoever.

If the instructions on the download page aren't enough, maybe the guide I made for our students will help with the problems you're having:

What poblems there ever appeard...

Thanks Vavega(i may take ya up on that) but i would think if they wanted more people to run this program, that there would be some major support for new users or problems. I went over to the Questions and answer forum and there is questions in there that havent been answered for several days. Now im not a computer wizzard of any sort fact i know enough to be very dangerous with a computer and im sure that there are people like me out there that will get discouraged at trying to run a program that took an hour to download and be messing with for several hours to get working to no avail.(rant mode off)

Iam on dial-up and iam using a proxy server by the way and have been running FAD on this setup with 4 computers for about a year now.

Thanks to Vester for trying to help me out.

Gang, if we keep hanging around here a while, there will be some experienced members to provide support...us. Note that they only went gold in October, so it is a lot like Find-a-Drug was in the beginning...only THINK knew how everything worked. Here, there are two kinds of problems: BOINC and Rosetta. I don't know if Rosetta has any BOINC gurus, but it would be helpful if they did.

I've never run BOINC before, and I'm not a programmer, but I'm going to master this thing. With or without help. :D

There have been some spam posts in our serious topics. Please note the rating features at the bottom of each post's panel. Give spammers and detractors a negative often enough and their posts disappear. Poof!

Thanks, Ethan. pphalan is running now after uninstalling, downloading again, and installing again. I had a similar problem, and I suspect corrupted or missing files in the downloads.

Thanks for downloading again, truckpuller. Look at the tutorial that Ethan provided and see if it helps.

[Edit] When you get those messages, it is usually a DNS issue. First flush your dns cache this way: Start > run, type cmd, click on Ok. In the console type ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter. Note the space before /all.

If that doesn't fix it, contact your ISP or wait. It is supposed to update every 8 hours. This is a rare, but not unknown problem.

Next question is how do ya tell its running..lol.

Also check your firewall and give access to boinc.exe and boincmgr.exe.

Double-click the BOINC icon in SysTray or right-click the icon and open the BOINC Manager. Click on the tab shown below. You could also look at the Task Manager and see that rosetta_4.78_windows_intelx86.exe is running.

well it shows nothing in the work tab but does show something in the projects tab, status shows communications deferred (what ever that means) and theres nothing in the task manager as you stated above.

Ok after reviewing Ethans instructions i had none of that when installed program . I downloaded the newest version of BOINC 5.2.6 maybe its the wroung one.

It should have completed the benchmark, about one minute, so open the BOINC Manager and click on Commands > Retry communications and see if it downloads jobs (number of jobs depends on benchmark).

I am not sure of myself, but I opened Options and lowered the setting for reminder frequency:

Don't confuse it with Rosetta 4.78.

It is late, and you spelled wroung the way I say it. :-)

:D Go here and click on "Your account" in the Returning Participants section on the left. Under preferences, click on the link "View or edit general preferences".

It says here, https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/rah_requirements.php , that you should need 200 MB of disk space. I allocated 3 GB because I have so much!

Go back to the General Preferences and make your choices based on your connection type. Also, make your appropriate settings under Internet Properties (from Control Panel) on the Connections tab. You may also have to make choices under the Network Connections section for connection Properties. I don't have a dial-up configured or I'd do some more screenshots. <ducks>

Late there? I'm an hour later than you: 04:17 am. Good night.

I do wish we could have a queue server setup for this; I'm not about to install firewalls etc on a load of boxes.
