The title says it all, It's been a week now, no work downloaded and it won't request any when on update. I have to suspend every other project to get work. Anyone else? Solutions ? |

Yes, that's probably the cause. With a RAC of 26, either the machine isn't on very much, or there are other projects crunching. Here is the QA that explains what BOINC is up to. Ace, Could you please tell us what Rosetta is "saying" under the messages tab of the BOINC Manager when work is requested by you. Also, make sure that Rosetta is allowed to ask for new tasks in the BOINC Manager. This can be found on the projects tab. Highlight Rosetta, if you see "allow new tasks" click that button. Also, under the same tab check to make certain that Rosetta is not suspended. If you see the button "resume" click that. If none of these seem to be the problem post back here and we will try to assist you further. Or, you can speak with someone directly by going to the BOINC Online Helppage and following the instructions given there. --Timothy |

12/12/2006 4:16:18 PM|rosetta@home|Sending scheduler request to https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta_cgi/cgi 12/12/2006 4:16:18 PM|rosetta@home|Reason: Requested by user 12/12/2006 4:16:18 PM|rosetta@home|(not requesting new work or reporting completed tasks) 12/12/2006 4:16:23 PM|rosetta@home|Scheduler request succeeded This is all I get, Task are allowed and the project is not suspended, I only have seti and seti enhanced beta running. So I don't think the computer is overcommited, it wouldn'y make sence as I only have a que of one WU per project and Like I said its just three projects at the moment. |

12/12/2006 4:16:18 PM|rosetta@home|Sending scheduler request to https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta_cgi/cgi What are your resource allocations for each project? If the other projects are catching up on debt BOINC will refuse Rosetta from getting work regardless of share. If there is no debt and Rosetta has a low share (compared to the others) you still won't get a WU for Rosetta. Feet1st can go deeper than this if necessary as this is as about as far as I can go. Also, Feet1st--would he have an "overcommited" message if the computer was in fact overcommited? |

BOINC is smarter than you. Leave it alone and it will get more work when it decides it needs to based on your resource settings. Being attached to multiple projects does not mean you will always have work from those projects all the time. It means BOINC will crunch work based on your ratio preferences. |

BOINC is smarter than you. Yes, when in doubt... |

Feet1st--would he have an "overcommited" message if the computer was in fact overcommited? Yes. But note, I didn't mean to suggest he was in an "overcommitted" state. Just that Rosetta has debt to the other projects and it is being paid off now. It will level out. This sort of thing happens as you add projects (such as SETI BETA) to the mix. Or otherwise change resource shares. If you DO have the overcomitted message saying BOINC is running earliest deadline first (EDF), that means no project will be downloading any work until you crunch through enough of what you have already. Since he reports only 1 WU per project, the machine is not likely in EDF. There is a tool to view the debt to help SEE the reletive debt between the projects. See the BoincDV add on. But bottom line, BOINC doesn't plan to crunch Rosetta in the near future, so it's not requesting any work. I wish the scheduler would keep one WU per project on board. But it doesn't "think" that way. Ace, your original post said it has been a week now. But when I view your computers, I see the last WU reported in Dec9. So that is only half a week. Perhaps those are the WUs you forced to come down by suspending the other projects. But by forcing BOINC like that, you actually cause Rosetta to incur more debt to the other projects, and so it actually delays things getting back to normal. If you want to crunch more Rosetta, you can increase the resource share in your Rosetta preferences and then update to the project. This will bring you back in to balance sooner then with a smaller resource share.
