Since installing BOINC, my computer takes MUCH longer to start up. I don't know much about how programs work, but I understand that it needs to know when my computer is not in use so that it can start doing work...therefore BOINC needs to start when my computer turns on.

But I was wondering if there is a way to have only a "smaller" program come on when the computer is turned on (so it doesn't take long). This "small" program would only detect whether or not the computer is in use. When it determines that the computer is no longer in use, and is ready to start doing work, then it can automatically open the rest of the program.

Like I said, I don't know that much about computers, so I'm not sure if what I am suggesting makes sense or is even possible, but that's what's on my "wish list" from BOINC - faster start up when I turn my computer on.

What you are suggesting makes sense, although it is not something that Rosetta@Home can change; that would be something for BOINC to change.

You shouldn't have noticed any measurable difference in your startup time simply by installing BOINC.

You can install BOINC to NOT load the program at startup. But then you have to remember to click the icon to start it.

That's a good idea to solve the problem, i have been having slow startup too, and i really like the idea of starting it by myself when ready. Thanks i will do that from now on and wait for windows to be done loading :)
