Hi. My current OS is Vista64. Yesterday I've installed the Boinc 64bit alpha version and tried to request units from rosetta, but I always become the following message from your server: "platform 'windows_x86_64' not found" When will be rosetta ready for the 64bit version? |

Hi. not an answer to your question, but they'll implement a script in the next alpha versions that will download the 32bit version if no 64bit version is available. |

Hi. The code is in the 5.9.5 version, however the projects have to update the server code with today's head (4/30/7). BOINC WIKI BOINCing since 2002/12/8 |

Since I am not a computer buff, I have a question. Since windows 64 is getting information twice as fast to crunch as windows 32, will there be a significant increase in performance, or am I missing something? the 64bit apps of SIMAP for instance show a performace increase of about 7%. |

Rosetta will have a 64bit compatible client shortly. It is currently being tested on Ralph:home ralph.bakerlab.org There have been a few revision to the BOINC client you originally installed so you may want to keep updating and reading in the alpha development list at BOINC or follow the source 'trac' bugs list. Note Rosett@home will not be a 64bit client but just the same as the 32 bit client, hidden by the server to look like a 64bit client (in laymens terms). Please see Ralph and/or the Number Crunching section here for more information. Team mauisun.org |

No. In most cases the difference is negligable, that is why the developers have not felt too much pressure to make a 64bit version. The FPU (Floating Point Unit) is virtually unchanged in the two types of CPU, since most projects use the FPU almost exclusively there is often no performance gain. As mentioned before simap has a fairly large gain, because that project spends less time using the FPU than most projects. Programs really gain from the 64bit CPUs if they need large blocks of memory, or if they do a large proportion of integer operations. BOINC WIKI BOINCing since 2002/12/8 |

the next version is up It's still a development version and will alost certainly go through a few more revisions. The jump to the 5.10.x is to say, this is what we are going to release now if nothing is found so nothing new etc will be added now. Plain old bug finding. The reason I say a few revisions is they have reverted and bak to older API, like wxWidgets has moved back to an old one, GTK has dropped back to an old one. etc.. so these all have to be tested. Predictor uses lots of memory (750 mb+ if memory serves, then 1 - 1.5mb for the last 20% of the WU), and I got a response from one of my posts here many moons ago on these boards that there are talks of a memory pig WU from Rosetta that would take advantage of hosts with lots of memory like mine. Would these WUs benefit greatly from the 64 bit version? (Click for detailed stats) |

How large are the blocks that you mention? Larger than 2 gb of memory if I remember correctly. Nothing any of the current projects are close to at this time. BOINC WIKI BOINCing since 2002/12/8 |
