Team USA Linux Users Group represents the members of http://www.usalug.org an online forum created to help Linux users everywhere. (Our members span the world and aren't just limited to the USA ;) )

We have started crunching for Rosetta the last couple of days, and it's been a minor learning curve as things obviously are a bit different from FAD. Some of the most noticiable differences are the use of BOINC and the memory requirements of Rosetta vs Think. So far, its going ok. Also, it appears that the default BOINC gives Linux users about 1/2 the points/credits that M$ users get. That is unless you compile your own BOINC and then it seems to be on a more level playing field. It appears that the default Windows client of BOINC is compiled using VB and without flags, the Linux version compiled with GCC didn't run as fast. Recompiling boinc from source code is a fairly simple process, and the results that it then produces are right in line with the M$ Windows clients. (AS it should be). I saw someone mentions something about being a "credit whore" in one of the other threads.... kind of a BAD way to think of things i think. We all crunch for a good cause, but it's the COMPETITION that keeps us interested (right pphalan ?? )... so, I don't feel BAD about compiling my BOINC client to give me the same points/credits as a comparable M$ machine would get..... so don't call me names about that....

So, if your interested in Linux, and want to crunch for team USA Linux Users Group feel free to join in with us

last time i checked the boinc client was written in c/c++ no matter for what os, wouldn't make too much sense to port c code you have already to vb for windows... IMO

The command line version is included, it's called boinc.exe and with boinccmd.exe you do anything what you would do with the manager ;-)
