I downloaded a WU on 8 Jan which is working. My problem is uploading the previous WU. Why rare we having the problems when the Server Statuses are showing OK?

Bummer! Still waiting for stuff to return to normal. I had a bunch of results that were complete ready for upload that have since disappeared from my queue. I am guessing they expired. I have a bunch more ready for upload, but it says upload suspended. I am wondering how I managed to drop in rankings in the stats lists (sorted by total credit). Apparently someone was able to upload some results to knock me down a couple spots.
I hope they get stuff up and running soon.

As mentioned above in this thread and in several other threads in this forum, the servers had a major crash a few days ago and it is taking time to recover.

We recently updated the web site with the latest BOINC code. Please post any issues with the web site in this thread. This update includes new features in the forum, spam filters, and a fix for merging hosts.

It seems that 8 out 0f 10 pieces of finished work cannot be uploaded as due to an error, and I quote, "Project file upload handler missing". This message appears for each piece of work that cannot be uploaded and must be deleted.
These files appear to be missing when the original piece of work is down loaded to the computer.

Dear all,
I get the error "platform 'x86_64-apple-darwin' not found"
is this something temporary due to the crash?
should I reset the project?
or is this platform no longer supported?
greetings,
markj

"This message appears for each piece of work that cannot be uploaded and must be deleted."

That message is no indication that anything must be deleted. It simply indicates that the upload server is still not running after the server crash. The BOINC Manager will retry the upload and wait for the server to accept the upload.

I can't upload completed tasks. My message reads "project file upload handler is missing." Is that my problem or the Rosetta software's problem? If it's mine, what do I do?

It's the same for me here, at least at my home location: project file upload handler is missing.

BUT: on my office computer, today everything went well. No problems downloading or uploading tasks, results etc.

So is it really a problem of the website, or could it be a problem with some inconsistent files??

Any help appreciated...

Until you see the project's estimated TeraFLOPs on the home page get up over 100, you can rest comfortably assured that you are not the only one having irregularities right now as the servers recover from the recent hardware failure.

It's nice by me too . Today I sent a WU I had just finished but I can't send the others which are waiting for 2 days
I'll wait the estimate TeraFLOPs be over 100

From the homepage: We're bringing the project up from a recent backup (12/09/10) but the backup wasn't a perfect replica of the environment, so we're having to scramble to get all the parts working together again.

Due to this situation I don't think the project had any information about some of the files on our system and didn't know what to do with them or something along that line. In any case the whole thing died and they have to rebuild it from scratch again plus deal with 10 million data files in addition to the program files.

So as they said on the home page, its going to be awhile before they are back.

So I rejoin after almost 2 years of inactivity. I see 4 computers and only one of them with credit or perhaps another one with a little in the single figures. I can't remember there being 4 when I left. Could this be because of the backup? Anyway I try to merge them and they seem to have been disappeared instead. Is this from the outage or is it a bug in the software?

Only the newest show up and I can still access the other 3 with their numbers only they have now been anonymized, all with zero credit. My account still looks like it has the total credit. People will now think I cheated having the credit but no computers that actually did it. :D Though I don't see how one could. I seem to have rejoined at the worst time.

So is this something that will automatically be fixed or should I just leave it and forget about it?

So you haven't noticed that Rosetta@Home recently had a file system crash bad enough that they expect it to take some time to get everything back to normal?

You could always try doing at least one more workunit, and seeing if that's enough to restore whichever computer you use to your records. But note that a number of other people rejoined after an absence long enough they need to download a new version of the application software have had problems doing that download, since the restore from the file system crash hadn't proceded far enough to restore that software from the backup they're using.

Hopefully, they can fix whatever other problems you're seeing, once the restore from the backup gets far enough.

Yes I did. But I don't think you understand my problem. The computers were all there and it looked like the totals added up. The only strange thing was that there were 4 when I was only using 1 during that period so I assumed it was a side-effect from the restore.

No problem so far and easy to solve, or so I thought. Then when I did the merge they just poof disappeared. Currently studying how databases work myself I don't see this as a problem with the backup. The data WAS all there after the restore until I did the merge then it disappeared. The app and workunits and everything are working fine but I think anyone doing a merge or who did one then would have the same problem. This was something I did on the website alone and that is where it broke.

If those machines were inactive for a while, they no longer show on the list of active hosts. If they were merged, one is removed as well.

They were there and they did show. It doesn't sound like anybody understands so let me illustrate:

Total Credit for 768175 before merge: 181,754.28
Total Credit for 965812 before merge: 6,008.17
Total Credit for 1003570 before merge: 0
Total Credit for 1026651 before merge: 0 <--- computer presumably being merged to

Total Credit for 768175 after merge: 0
Total Credit for 965812 after merge: 0
Total Credit for 1003570 after merge: 0
Total Credit for 1026651 after merge: 0 <--- notice no credit

So their credit was zeroed but it was never added to destination host. They were effectively just removed. This looks like a software bug. If it can't be fixed right now I understand, but the merge function should then be disabled until it can.

Upgrading BOINC versions sometimes causes the system to think you are using a new computer. For example if you had run some tasks with BOINC 4.x and then upgraded to BOINC 5.x the system may count the same computer twice. 3 duplicates may have been caused by 4 installs.

People will now think I cheated having the credit but no computers that actually did it. :D Though I don't see how one could.

I wouldn't worry about your missing data at host level. Your BOINC Stats page clearly shows that you earned the credit steadily between July 2006 and January 2009, so there will be no suspicion of "faking" your credit. ^_~
