When do we know, that Rosetta is crunching something for or against Diabetes?

Watch the amyloids thread - I've found some information that at least type 2 diabetes can be caused by amyloids, but haven't gotten around to adding it to that thread yet. Rosetta is already working on amyloids, although apparantly mostly for Alzheimer's research so far.

Also watch the zinc-binding proteins thread - I've found some evidence that some of them are involved in the immune system, and therefore some are likely to related to the cause of type 1 diabetes. Also, the pancreas is one of the two organs that use the most zinc.

I'd say, though, that Rosetta is more working on software likely to be used by diabetes researchers later, than actually working specifically on diabetes very much now.

I've found another BOINC site that appears to be closer to work related to diabetes, and plan to mention more details about them here when they both get past beta tests and have a significant number of workunits available.

Expect them to have application programs even more memory-hungry than Rosetta, though.

That one. I didn't want to suggest that anyone not ready for beta testing should participate there yet - but, come to think of it, the Rosetta environment is much like beta testing elsewhere, but with a higher volume of workunits.

The larger the number of different kinds of autoantibodies, the higher the risk for diabetes, and the younger the child with autoantibodies, the earlier disease onset will be.
