So I have the BOINC client running on the PS3 through YDL. I can attach to the Rosetta@home project, but it doesn't download any work however the PS3 shows up on my list of computers I have running BOINC attached to R@H. When looking through the various tabs it tells me is the communication is deferred. Could someone shed some light on this for me. Thanks

Rosetta does NOT have a PS3 client. So it got through as far as registering the host, but now has no appropriate application to run.

So how soon are we talking before a PS3 client is released, like next week? Just kidding of course, but in all seriousness is there any timeframe for creating the client? If an efficient client is produced for the PS3 I will personally make it my goal to dedicate 1000 PS3's in the first year alone.

I certainly love your goal! ...but at this time no specific PS3 plans have been announced. The Rosetta "Mini" application they are currently working on is revamped code that would hopefully be more easily portable and optimizable. But I'm sure at this time the work is going in to making Mini stable and able to take on the proteins for this Summer's CASP.

Well I will keep my ear to the ground. My plan is to work with Sony to due a mass PS3 buy with funding through my non-profit organization to create a dedicated PS3 farm for the Rosetta@home project.

There are A LOT of people who want this to happen! Me included, obviously! :) That would be a huge advantage for the whole project! I'd so much rather run rosetta@home with my ps3 than the gpugrid.. I'm keeping my hopes up.

I kinda figured.. hehe. :) And just now I noticed how long time ago the previous post before mine was posted.. Is there any updated information about this case? What would be needed to do to get it working under PS3? Awfully lot of work, or just semi-amount? :D I guess we need somebody who can play around with cell programming quite well am I right?

Maybe those people who got their projects to work under PS3 cell would be able to help us out?

And here is the actual reason why PS3 should have its rosetta spplication:

I just finished my first GPUGRID work unit, after a little bit over 20 hours of work.

Total credit 3,471
Recent average credit 295.08

Pretty well huh? We need the PS3 app.. :-|

No, I haven't heard anything more recently. The question, whether specifically about PS3, or CUDA or GPU or NVIDIA... arrives constantly.

I am not a developer of Rosetta, so I can't definitively comment on the rest. But the effort would certainly be significant. Dr. Baker posted that he had heard it took 2 person years for folding@home to develop a GPU version. Rosetta's programs would all be reinveted in that period of time and you'd have to salvage what you could and work further to catch up to all the changes.

My personal opinion is that Rosetta MUST work in a GPU version AND in a PS3 version as well... if this project wants to survive in the future.
Computational power of these two environments is needed for the near future. If Rosetta does not work in this line... unfortunatelly, will die sooner or later.

Regards.
