The BOINC client and manager package is behind a couple versions in the Ubuntu repositories for the Synaptic Package Manager. Will the package update from 5.10.45 to the newer 6.2.15 version for amd64 installations at some point? Is this something that BOINC needs to fix, or Ubuntu? |

Was about to ask the very same question too, as so far have had a few issues with this particular version. Completed 2 WU's then the client just stopped using both cores and was getting errors And when went to check the message logs everything just disappeared, now there are no WU,s and wont restart.?? |

You can also use the offical version, it would work on every Linux distribution. |

You can download the newest version from other places. I got it from the seti@home site. To keep things running you may need to run a cron job. On the seti site there is a help file/faq (can't remember exactly which) that explains how to do it. Look for a HowTo install in linux. Try running BOINC at 80-90% of CPU to avoid overheating your processor. |

The reason that the boinc is outdated in the repos is because the person that usually submits the latest and greatest upstream to debian has not done so. I would like to help in this process and have joined the launchpad boinc team, but am not sure how to proceed. I'm not a developer and I don't even know how to code, but I will work on getting the latest boinc manager submitted upstream (once approved and tested it flows down into the ubuntu repos) so that everyone can enjoy the latest boinc manager. |

Just recently got ubuntu started up on the old PC and downloaded BOINC from Synaptic as well. Still comes up at version 5.10.45 Would like to see the repositories version of BOINC updated. Crewsr3...have you looked at this page? Debian BOINC Maintainers Seems to be a Debian team devoted to keeping BOINC updated in the repositories. I guess it's a slow process??? There was a ToDo link at the bottom of the page. Debian BOINC ToDo List Hope it comes soon! Is 5.10.45 even usable nowadays? Get a red message from rosetta telling me to update to 6.4.5... Suppose I can do that from the BOINC site, but it would be nice if it is in the repositories. Like to keep things easy for new BOINC and Ubuntu recruits. :) [edit.....] okay, I was able to get BOINC 6.2.14 downloaded using Synaptic. Found a link on ubuntu's site for BOINC hardy-backports. At the bottom of the page are some links to "Download boinc-client" on the page following the link it shows you how to add the mirrors for the required repositories to your /etc/apt/source.list file. doing this...then opening Synapitic and Reloading allowed me to upgrade my BOINC. Probably the only way to go about it with Hardy... Looks like Intrepid comes with 6.2.12...and has a similar backport procedure for 6.2.14..? |

.... and 6.2.12 version for amd64 is not the greatest. Rosetta is not able to get 100% of cpu. every 5 seconds it pauses. so do not hurry. |

.... That sounds more like a machine that is configured to use less than 100% of CPU. Rosetta Moderator: Mod.Sense |
