Hi, my local preference for CPU usage is 20% max and computation is allowed while computer is in use. Computer is ON about 12 to 14h per day. Constantly I am receiving too much WU which cannot be processed in time. I do manual abort for those WU. Any idea how I can configure settings to receive amount of WU that can be processed before the deadline? Przemek |

Hi, Hi What are your settings (in 'Participats > When and how BOINC uses your computer') for: Computer is connected to the Internet about every: Maintain enough work for an additional: Danny |

How long has BOINC been installed on this machine? It takes it some time to get used to how you use your machine. For it to understand that it is only on that many hours a day and only using 20% of CPU. I'm curious, why only 20% of CPU? Are you just being conservative? Or did you have some sort of problems, perhaps conflicts with other work, running at higher levels? Rosetta Moderator: Mod.Sense |

Hi, settings are as follows: Computer is connected to the Internet about every (Leave blank or 0 if always connected. BOINC will try to maintain at least this much work.) 0 Maintain enough work for an additional 10 days Any conclusions? |

How long has BOINC been installed on this machine? It takes it some time to get used to how you use your machine. For it to understand that it is only on that many hours a day and only using 20% of CPU. I have re-installed my system 1 month ago so BOINC on this computer is running for 1 month now. I'm curious, why only 20% of CPU? Are you just being conservative? Or did you have some sort of problems, perhaps conflicts with other work, running at higher levels? I am running BOINC on my HP laptop and I faced problems with overheating. This is why I have configured it to 20% only. |

reduce the 10 days WU cache - maybe try 3 days to start with and then adjust from there... |

I am running BOINC on my HP laptop and I faced problems with overheating. This is why I have configured it to 20% only. Change the laptop to only use one of its dual cores and it will run much cooler. Also get a usb fan that goes underneath the laptop to help cool it. Also get a can of compressed air and when the laptop is turned OFF blow air into the fan ports to help clear out any existing dust. Here is an example of the fan I am talking about: http://www.eforcity.com/coolingfan.html I see these pads at my local Big Lots store for less than $15.00 all the time. |

The deadline to return completed work to Rosetta is generally 10 days from when it is assigned to you. Any time you try to get a buffer of work equal in size to the deadline of the project you attach to, you are likely to have problems. ...But BOINC should be coming pretty close by now. If your usage of the machine is consistent, and you haven't changed with the % of CPU settings, it should understand how much you can do in 10 days and only be asking for that much. ...from the looks of your results page, it doesn't appear BOINC is coming very close to scheduling this properly. It shows you are using version 6.6.38 of the BOINC client. Anyone have any specific experience with when the scheduling problems were fixed again? Rosetta Moderator: Mod.Sense |

Not sure about after..but I was staying on 6.4.7 for a long time to avoid the 6.6.x issues. I also notice the queue for Rosie is shorter than Einstein despite increasing the amount of resources to Rosie and reducing Einstein. I told boinc mgr to add 5-6 extra days of work and it seems to only hold about 2-3 extra days. Almost seems better to go back to 6.4.7 since the queue management was more accurate. |

Any time you try to get a buffer of work equal in size to the deadline of the project you attach to, you are likely to have problems. Maybe the 6.10.15 and up version? Even the early 6.10.? version had problems with scheduling! Honestly I am not SURE it is totally fixed even now, sometimes my machines still go into high priority deadline mode even though I have pretty much stabilized my pc's over the last month or so. Although I am switching back to one project from another so all heck will probably break loose again!! I switched because my Team was involved in a Challenge but am switching back now that it is over. |
