Message 71393 - Posted: 8 Oct 2011, 14:32:59 UTC

I am so frustrated. it used to run very well up till one month ago. One time I suspended it and then when I unsuspended from that day on whenever it is on it says suspended by the user.

I updated it, I reset project, I reallowed new projects, I detached and put it back, I configured it again, nothing works. Each time it comes on, it say it does not have any new tasks and it is suspended.

Before, when these things happened, I just updated, or reset it and it started to work again, but nothing works now. What should I do. If it does not work I am going to uninstal.

Where do you see the message "suspended by user"? In the event log (message tab in older versions of BOINC) or in the projects tab? In the projects tab you must highlight the project first to activate the buttons on the left. The labels on the buttons will then reflect what will happen if you click on them. You want them to read "Suspend" and "No new tasks". If they read "Resume" and/or "Allow new tasks" BOINC thinks you currently do not want to crunch rosetta tasks.

Misreading the buttons or failing to highlight the correct project is an error to which even an experienced cruncher can fall prey. If this was the problem and it is now resolved please post back and let us know but if that doesn't get things started again there are plenty more details to check:

When you say you "updated it" I assume you mean you hit the update button in the BOINC manager not that you updated BOINC. So which version of BOINC are you using? If you recently updated the BOINC client you should be aware that there is a relatively new preference setting: "while processor usage is less than x percent". By default it is set to a very conservative 25% and some unsuspecting updaters have been startled by the sudden reduction in crunching.

When you hit update in the manager you should get a corresponding line in the event log (or message tab). What does it say?

Are you attached to any other projects? You said you "reallowed new projects" but I assume you meant "reallowed new tasks". Rosetta is the project; the workunits it sends to our computers to crunch are called tasks. If you are attached to any other projects are you receiving and crunching tasks from them?

Is the box for "Computing allowed when computer is in use" checked or unchecked? What are your settings for memory use? How memory do you have and how much is BOINC allowed to use?

You can check want BOINC thinks your preferences are by quitting the BOINC client (not just closing the manager window), restarting the client, and examining the first 20-40 lines in the event log (message tab in older BOINC versions). Copy and paste them here if you want help interpreting them.

Best,
