Hi everyone! My name is Ian and I'm a PhD student in David Baker's lab in Seattle. I am using Rosetta to try to design new enzymes from scratch. Enzymes are protein catalysts that speed up chemical reactions. It's enzymes that make life on Earth possible. I'd be happy to share more about my research later, but that's not the point of this post... I am writing to let you all know that major updates are coming to the Rosetta@home website soon. Our home on the web will be getting a much needed facelift. We want to update and clarify the site contents, modernize the look and feel, and, importantly, we want to streamline the process of signing up new members. Rosetta@home is a powerful scientific resource. It's each one of you who contributes to the research we do in a meaningful way. And we want to make sure this amazing community grows! Here is a link showing the look and feel we are planning for the updated website. Please check it out and let me know what you think in this thread. Note that the link I just gave you goes to a preview site - it is incomplete and many of the links don't work (so don't share it on social media please). It is also subject to change. But I would love to hear what you all think of it! With this big update we are also planning on providing you all with more feedback about how your participation in Rosetta@home is impacting the science we do. There are so many exciting things happening! I look forward to posting a lot in these forums. Speaking of forums - we are going to try to merge the existing social content (i.e. message boards) onto the new site. We don't want to lose out history! I just want to say thanks to all of you for making this such as exciting time for protein design and protein research generally. We are on the cusp of some absolutely amazing discoveries that will change the world. Thank you for participating in R@h!! - Ian |

I am writing to let you all know that major updates are coming to the Rosetta@home website soon. That's fantastic!! I like science you do! But, please, a little request: do NOT use Drupal forum as Einstein@Home, it's ureadable, you cannot understand threads, posts, whatsoever. The "classic" (but updated) Boinc forum is great. |

I still haven't figured out the new Einstein yet, or maybe it just doesn't work at all in some areas. |

Hi Ian, great to hear. I'll give some feedback once I've had a chance to look at it. D |

I like the "new" forum in boinc site, clear, fast, etc... Looks good. A clean layout, and no surprises. I don't like surprises in forums. |

It looks a bit like the "Bootstrap" functionality that has been introducted over at yafu, apparently going to be fully included into BOINC some time soon? The Yafu site is functional and clean so this one should be OK to understand when done. Conan |

I'll 3rd that. I like that many of the BOINC sites are pretty similar. Home|Account|Message Boards link at the bottom. Many of the same links on the home page, etc, etc. |

I definitely like the new look that's planned here, but I do have one suggestion to make. Keep contrast in mind when choosing your color scheme. In particular, you have a medium blue background for text on the various pages. In order to keep the text readable, it needs to be light in color; the white and powder blue being used work very well. However at the bottom of the FAQ page there are a couple of items in a dark gray color. My eyesight is not as good as all that, not at my age, and for me these items are almost unreadable against the blue background. If you want to draw attention to these, keep them light in color, but alter the hue, so making them either pale green or yellow would get you where you want to be. |

How about introducing badges to recognize our effort for this project? |

11 Nov 2016-10 Feb 2017 3 months for a web site update??? (not considering server update, hw upgrade, etc). I repeat my question: "soon" means? |

I was told around summer time for hardware upgrades. There's no plan for a web site update before the server upgrades since the backend software would be upgraded with the hardware, unless someone in the lab wants to take some time away from their research and work on this...and then again when the hardware is upgraded. There was at one point some hope to the situation when a potential donor mentioned some software development/engineering help but it never panned out to my knowledge. |

The first time i've heard about "server upgrade" the President of USA was Bill Clinton. So can you permit i'm little skeptical? I'm very happy if i'm wrong |

Yep, I'd be skeptical too. |
