How can I allocate more disk space to enable me to get work?
I am new to this and only have Rosetta running.
I am getting these messages..

Under "Your Account", in the "General Preferences", you can allocate how much disk space BOINC is allowed to use. It is very easy to misunderstand these settings, especially the "% of disk" part, because it is actually referring to % of free space. Basically, just "give it more" - BOINC won't use very much space, and Rosetta is fairly small. The only project I know of that takes up 650MB or more is Climateprediction.

Maybe I am not following what you suggest, but I thought I was - I am still getting the maessage

"|rosetta@home|Message from server: (there was work but you don't have enough disk space allocated)"

BUT I have my settings in general preferences as below. And Rosetta was running well before that, and I have not changed the prefrences!

"Disk and memory usage
Use no more than 100 GB disk space
Leave at least 0.1 GB disk space free
Use no more than 50% of total disk space
Write to disk at most every 60 seconds
Use no more than 75% of total virtual memory"

Is there something else I need to do?

Thanks

Ian

Those settings seem to be generous enough. Have you checked how much hard disk space is actually free and how much is already used by BOINC (check it in Windows Explorer)?

I recall having this same problem some time ago when I had a few old (finished) "Climate Prediction" work units taking up so much space that BOINC had used more space than I had allowed (even though there was plenty of free space). Once I deleted those old work units, all was well again.

Bill,
Thanks for the info. I made a few alterations and it is now receiving work again!
It's easy when you know how.. :-)

Cheers,
Geoff.

Use no more than 50% of total disk space

This is going to sound silly, but try it... change that to 60%, hit "update" on the website, go back to BOINC Manager, select Rosetta in the Projects tab and hit Update.

Bet you that it works. This "% of total disk space" isn't what it sounds like, ie; you have a 60GB disk, it can't have but 30GB of it; it's % of space that's totally empty, including page files, etc., which could be very little unless you have tons of "free" space. Also, sometimes for no reason, it seems to "mis-read" the values - in that case, even changing it to 60 then back to 50 would cause it to re-read, and work.

Thanks for the suggestion.

The Boinc Folder contains a total of 132 files in 40 folders, and uses a total of 34.7 MB. We are also running Seti@home and sharing resources with Rosetta set to 100 and Seti to 900. We have a 150 GB hard drive, and there is about 60 GB free. So from what I've seen in Boinc, there does not seem to be any excessive use.

Any other suggestions please - as I mentioned before, both Rosetta and Seti were running until yesterday, and I have not changed any settings in the last 2 weeks.

Thanks

Ian

Sure sounds like BOINC is confused. Have you tried Bill's suggestion (shown below)?
